They might even be too radical for PETA.

I don't know much about cats but I know it's pretty common for dogs to get their thumbs chopped off for aesthetic and safety reasons.
Declawing sounds very ouchy. Just consider both the pluses and minuses of getting this procedure done, it's all up to you in the end.

I had my cat neutered & it took him all of a day to recover from it. He was very drunk for a day & then back to his old self.
A month later, I had his front claws declawed. They used a new method--a laser which means minimal bleeding & he seemed fine. I bought him pain pills from the vet, but he only needed to take one. He was jumping & running around a day later.

Yes. For some reason, my shih-tzu didn't have hers done, and she's had several problems with tearing it & bleeding, infections, etc. Made a believer otu of me.

Aww poor doggie. I love shih-tzus. My SIL has a shitzu pug cross and one of her thumbs wasn't cut off properly when she was a pup and started growing back so she had to get it redone.

Maybe that's what happened to mine. I got her when she was 18 months. Can't imagine life without her. She follows me EVERYWHERE.

Stop hijacking this thread, Lobelia. Bad Lobelia.

I had the dumbest Shih-Tzu in the world, he was so inbred, he was his own uncle. Seriously, never met or had a more retarded dog. I really think he was mentally challenged.

    How was he retarded?
I don't particularly think Elmo is the smartest either but I don't know the degree of retardedness in dogs. Hubby thinks maybe Elmo suffered some brain damage when we lived at this other condo building cuz it got so incredibly hot there and we had no AC. Our suite was facing south and the whole place turned into an oven in the summer.

First of all, my mother got him for me as a BD gift from a pet store. Puppy mill, anyone?? He was tres expensive and I asked her if brains were an option. Second, all Shih-Tzus are descended from like a dozen (I believe the number I read was 8) but I think he had backyard breeders that sold to a pet store. I am sure NOT ALL are inbred, and mentally challenged, but mine was.

I had him for eight years until he bit my baby in the face twice, once provoked, kind of, and once totally unprovoked. Now he lives with my dad, who LOVES stupid dogs. He has a better life than he had here, I want to come back as my dad's dogs in another life. He goes absolutely everywhere with my dad and is his best friend.
