Style you are lucky your "incident" was with a small dog. I have a large dog and as a puppy we had several "incidents" and let me tell you it was a mess and it was not contained to the bathroom! So count yourself very LUCKY!Hopefully soon you will completely bond with your puppy and wont even fathom the idea of returning him! Keep us posted!

Hes sleeping right now. Hes making little baby snores. Lol. Is that normal for dogs to snore? Well, all is good for now. Once school starts will really be the test for my family, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.

Yes, dogs snore - they also fart and want to have sex with random objects just like men.

Hes started humping things. And im talking anything he can get his dong on. Legs, chairs, crumpled up blankets, my cat. Its pretty gross but hes a dog so I guess I have to deal with it. I didnt expect him to develop sexually until he was much older but I guess whoever warned me that dachshunds are horny little devils was spot on.

the humping actually has nothing to do with sex... it's a dominance thing. he's testing everyone & everything around him to see what he can become alpha of. go back a few pages & i posted a link to a site that gives some ideas on how to assert authority on him without using force.

dogs begin to mature sexually between the ages of 6-12mths... here's a site that explains the different stages of growth.

Ok, but the thing is, Snickers isnt even yet 4 months old. And hes doing it constantly.. sometimes while hes doing other things.. it just randomly happens and then he'll stop. It comes in spurts but its been happening VERY frequently. Is this indicative of a problem? Or is he just maturing really early?

Im planning on it. I read that I should avoid invasive surgury until he was at least 6 months though. Would now be a good time to do it?

I think I had Elmo neutered after 6 months. You should probably wait. I remember Elmo humping my leg a lot, too. But he still does it once in a while even though he got his family jewels removed like 8 years ago...

some vets will do it as early as 4mths but yeah, i would wait too...

one more thing... he should be teething anytime now, so be prepared with lots of chew toys for him when he begins to mouth at things he's not supposed to.
