What really disgusts me about greyhound racing is that they throw the dogs away like garbage after they're done with them. I don't know as much about horse racing, but I imagine it's much the same thing.

^^No, it's really not. I grew up around the racing industry, & some more successful horses are used for breeding, while most are auctioned off privately & retrained to be ridden. I have shown a few ex-races & they make wonderful mounts.

"This horse was a hero," said David Switzer, executive director of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association.

jesus christ, when will people stop overusing the word 'hero'?

I was really hoping the guy would pull through. Well, if he was suffering and in pain, the owners made the right decision. I just hope he's happy and at peace now, and as someone else said, in horse heaven.

Sad, but I believe the only reason he was kept alive as long as he was is so that they could breed him and make a few more dollars off him. He probably should have been put down last year, he's just suffered for the greed of this industry.

When will people pull their head out of their ass and see the immorality of using animals for our profit and entertainment? Rodeos, horse racing, greyhound racing, bullfighting, circuses--they all involve activities that are inherently dangerous to the animals, abuse runs rampant, and the animals obviously have no ability to consent to the ways in which they are being used.

Spot on. They probably collected his sperm instead of studding him (or whatever they call it in the effed-up horse racing world).
