Awww, I hope your daughter is doing ok.

Rats do make really great pets if handled from an early age, but I would seriously recommend that you get a female rather than a male, which can be a little more "pungent". Rats are also extremely intelligent, so your daughter should enjoy having one. Oh, and they like meat, too. I used to give mine a spoonful of catfood every day on top of his veggies and grain.

Your post brought back memories of all the funerals for various gerbils, mice and goldfish that I used to make my mother have. I still haven't let her forget the time when one of my goldfish died and she couldn't fit its really long tail into the little box I had insisted on for a "coffin". I walked in on her just as she was snipping the excess tail off and dropping it in the box....

omg kitty. I shouldn't have laughed at that, but I did!

We are looking for 2 female young rats, I am making her wait a little and not just getting one without some searching. Impatience can be unfortunate if you end up with a pet that isn't a good fit.
Don't worry about what other people think. They don't do it very often.

Lol, it's ok - it's a running joke between me and my mum now about how I have never forgotten about it. Mind you, she does point out that my cat ate her terrapin (turtle), so I guess we are even.
