Joy, a lioness at Switzerland's Zurich Zoo, gave birth to two cubs Feb. 3. Lion cubs typically weigh about 3 pounds at birth and don't become fully mature until they're 3 or 4 years old.
In the wild, lion cubs born in prides are twice as likely to survive as cubs born to a lioness on her own -- and cubs can nurse from any mother in the pride, not just their own. Wild lions have a lifespan of about 15 years, while lions in zoos have been known to live for up to 30 years.
