Default My 18 year old cat is driving me insane!!

OK, seriously. I have had her since she was born. She's now just about 18 and is pretty much completely deaf. She howls like a banshee when she walks around the house. This is pretty alarming at 3 in the morning.

Seriously, you guys know me, I love my kitties, but I need some peace and quiet. Any suggestions?

She's an indoor only cat and is in good health for a cat her age.

Trust me, if she wasn't "old lady cat", I would let her out.

As she's deaf could she not be aware of how much noise she is actually making? This probably sounds really stupid!

Maybe she is abit achy or stiff and letting everyone know? Or just age, you know how (some) old people get abit grumpy

    Is her thyroid ok?

^^Her thyroid runs a bit high, but not high enough for her doctor to medicate her. I guess, because she's pretty old, a lot of her body functions are a bit off. According to the vet, she's very healthy for her age.

It makes sense that she can't hear and she's not aware of making noise.

She's really grumpy to the younger cats, but not her to her brother (who is her equally old littermate).

That's her (with Josie) in my signature.

Mine is the same age and acts the same. She's probably a little senile I wish I could offer something constructive but the poor thing is deaf, what can she do? She has no idea she's being so loud. Try locking her in one room at night, or something. Somewhere you can't hear her.

I feel really bad for even complaining about her...because she is so old. She's a sweet little thing, but she just finished her 1st howling session of the night. Maybe she is a bit senile, to go along with being deaf.

I guess it's pretty normal, since your kitty does it too.
