This is one penguin who’s definitely in need of a pick-me-up.
Because Kentucky totally flips out at the sight of water. Instead of diving in with his pals he tries to turn himself into Kentucky fried penguin by basking on a rock in the winter sun.
Most penguins spend half of their life in the water but Kentucky turns his beak up at the pool at the 80-acre Blackbrook Zoological Park in Staffordshire.
Deputy curator Jaclyn Pearson said: “He was a runt and always had bad moults. His feathers are back to normal but he’s 11 now, which is quite old for a penguin. And he refuses to go in as he’s got into the habit of not doing so.
“Visitors really like him though – he gets special attention because he won’t go in the water.”
