Humanitarians in Berlin have opened a soup kitchen exclusively for dogs. The soup kitchen is to be used by pets of the homeless and unemployed, where they will be given a free meal. The soup kitchen has come under criticism.
Some believe it would be more sensible to raise money for the dogs' human owners. Soup kitchen director Claudia Hollm said: "Nowadays people underestimate dogs. They are incredibly important for those who lack social contact with other humans."
She added: "Making sure dogs don't go hungry is just as important as making sure that people don't starve." Berlin's dogs are getting special treatment across the board lately. Last week, a bus service to carry dogs to doggy day-care was launched.
