Bleating in terror, it struggled against the thick black mud which sucked down its small hooves.
But the lamb only sank deeper and deeper - as the tide behind it rose higher and higher.
Luckily, help was at hand. Coastguards from Burnham-On-Sea, Somerset waded in and rescued the lamb from certain death.
They were alerted by a caller who saw the lamb stranded in the mud flats beside the River Parrett at West Huntspill.
