Default My Freaky Kitty Keeps Freakin' Me Out!

So here's my question: do cats normally twitch when they're in deep sleep? And I mean twitch! His little paws'll be going like crazy, his eyes are halfway open (just a moment ago, I thought one eye was looking at me, turns out, he was asleep and dreaming), and sometimes his whole face will spasm! The first time it happened I thought he was having some kind of epileptic fit!

This is my first time having a cat of my own, so I can't say I remember any other cat(s) that I've known being such a freaky sleeper-- and I've known plenty of cats! So far, it seems like "normal" sleep behavior to me (only seems to happen when he's in REM sleep), but every now and then it just freaks me the hell out and makes me think he should get a CAT scan. **oh, my god! CAT scan! hah!** Or an MRI or somethin'. I think I'm worrying for nothing, though.

Whew! Thanks, Draco! I had to read your post twice, though, cuz I couldn't figure out what being Catholic has to do with pet experience.

Yep, my dog does it too, he sleeps on the bottom on my bed (I know, I know he shouldn't) He had such an energetic dream two weeks ago that he actually fell off the bed and scarpered out of the room quick because because he was embarrassed!

My Mums cat, twitches a little, she's snores like a foghorn though. It must vary from cat to cat and is nothing to worry about. If anything it's entertaining and sweet to watch. Except the creepy half open eye bit! I wouldn't worry

My dog does this sort of stuff, too. He twitches, waves his legs around as if he's running and even barks in his sleep. It startles me sometimes at night (we let our dog sleep on our bed with us, I have to contort my body cuz he takes up quite a room and sometimes likes to wedge himself btwn me and hubby, btwn my legs etc.).

Well, I have a pug with big bulging eyes so it seems kinda normal sometimes that his eyes don't close all the way when he's sleeping (kinda like that Garfield look) and he snores pretty loud since a lot of dogs with squished face/short snout have a bit of a breathing issue. I got used it though and it's really cute. My hubby snores louder so my dog's snore sounds like an angel breathing to me.

Wicked, cats do that when they are having a dream. They must dream they are running, because their little legs go and go. Sometimes their eyes half open, and sometimes they make these funny gutteral sounds. I guess they dream they are running or hunting. My husband doesn't like it, and feels they are scared or something, but they are just dreaming. No need for emergency vet visits for this one!
