Default Dogs left in cars in the heat

temperatures have shot back up here in southern california..so i am driving to the bank today and i see this little old lady with this huge labrador in her backseat..it is totally hot outside, the windows are rolled up and the dog is panting furiously, completely overheated, it's eyes red...*dreadful*

i tried to put my window down and say something to her but she drove away...i don't know what she thought...

people..when it's hot, PLEASE don't leave your dog in the car with the windows rolled up. they can die of heat-stroke. it is horrible to do this..

please don't leave them in the car at all in such hot weather, but if you must take them with you, please roll down a few of the windows and take some water for them too....

i live in los angeles and this stuff makes me really upset. dogs have this thick fur coat and they're already waaay warmer than we are and then people leave them in cars for 30 and 40 minutes at a time... *terrible*

    ok end rant. thank you.

    I know, people disgust me.
Animal cruelty. If you can't take care of and afford to feed a pet, don't get one. We actually bought Dick ( My dog ) this great portable water bottle called a 'gulpy' it flips out into a bowl then as easy as it flips out, it flips back in. No mess, no hassle. Great out here in Summer, at the cabin to bring along on the boat. Those of you with dogs who spend a lot of time outside in Spring and Summer with you or if you live in a place where it's warm all year round, you should seriously consider looking into it. There's also toys that you can fill with water, and when the dog bites/plays with it, water drips from tiny holes. Again, no mess, no hassle and it floats. Funny story though, Dick was scared of the 'gulpy' at first. Even the word seemed to send shivers down his spine. I think someone might of whacked him with it at one point or another. Who knows, either way... he likes it a lot better now.

    i agree..
i just re-read my post and it sounds rather lecturing and know-it-all and i don't know it all in the least when it comes to anything but i really love animals and this kind of thing is so very uncool..

i remember last summer i saw so many dogs stuck in peoples' cars outside the grocery store..they looked miserable and barely able to breathe..

one woman in particular i recall posted on another board that she took her kids and the dog for an outing on a really hot day..they took the kids somewhere and forgot about their dog, who had thick fur and was inside their car for hours...they came back and found their dog dead, she died of heat-stroke..the woman was like 'oh well, it wasn't intentional, we didn't mean for it to happen.'

    WTH?????

Someone should 'unintentionally' leave people like that in a vechile on a hot day, with the windows up and nothing to drink. I'd be happy to do it. No really, I would.

I'd happily shout at owners like this. And if I saw a dog or any animal in a cat on a hot day I would either go into the store if it was in a carpark and ask the manager to make an announcment, or would wait around til the owners came back and then say something.

I feel so passionate about animal rights....I would probably end up with a black eye but I don't care as long as I said how I felt.

People who do this do their animals deserve to be locked in a hot metal prison until they die.

When my dog was still alive, whenever we had to take him along in the car during summer, I'd crack open the window so he could get fresh air and would give him water at regular intervals.

I will break a window if necessary to save an overheated animal. Fuck whoever wants to get mad at me. Also, they won't ever get their dog back if I have to rescue him that way. And I will call the cops. I would not care if I got arrested for doing something like that.

You know, they sell window vents that you can put up when you have your windows down and it prevents the animal from jumping out.

Funny story: a friend of my mom had her son and another woman help her steal a neighbor's dog that was kept on a short chain in a yard with no shelter. They stole the dog and moved him 3 hrs away to live with another friend of theirs. Asshole owner had the gall to ask neighbors who stole the dog! If you really cared, you'd have treated it better.

Why do people have to bring their fucking dogs with them when they go shopping? Its not like fucking Fido can go on a jaunt in the local mall. Are people so co-dependent they can't leave their precious dog AT FUCKING HOME WHERE HE BELONGS?

fucking hate people who bring their dog along "for the company" to the mall, bank, grocery store, etc..

I have this theory that idiots that leave their dogs in their cars like that, they use their dog as a car alarm/security system so that noone would break in...

If you think it's crazy, you ain't seen a thing. Just wait until we're goin down in flames.

People should call Animal Control if they see an animal in a car on a hot day with all the windows rolled up.

I can see wanting to take your dog with you SOME PLACE THAT THEY CAN GET OUT OF THE CAR TOO. Like Pet Supermarket, the park, a friends, etc...but i do not see the need to take your dog somewhere that requires leaving them in a car alone. Some people are very selfish.

I don't blame you for saying something. Some people are idiots and need to be reminded of that fact. I have a big, black lab and when it's hot, she doesn't go "for a ride", whether she loves the car or not. She loves to go for a ride, more than anything. You ask her if she wants to go for a ride or for a walk and see what gets the spaz reaction. We'll take her out for a little trip every now and again just to get her out, but only if one of us is in the car and only if the weather is nice enough. She loves to hear "wanna go dooooooog beeeeeeach???"

People also leave their kids locked in cars too - usually in the casino carpark or outside the pub.
