My beautiful Missy
We had to put her to sleep yesterday. My heart is breaking. It was so hard to come downstairs this morning and no little meow and sweet girl running to see me.
I haven't been reading the pet threads cause it hurt too much while she was sick, I'm sorry if I missed any sad news from others.

Aw, Palermo, so sorry about this. May she rest in peace, and you find some comfort in the coming days.

Sorry to hear that, Palermo. After my first Siamese cat died unexpectedly (he was only 3), I was devastated for a long time. About a year later, I was moving and I found some of his white hair on a sweater I rarely wore and I broke down all over again. When my other cat of 20 years died, I was expecting it obviously, but it was still incredibly sad. There was literally a hole in my life.
Wait a while, then get another pet. It won't take your Missy's place, but you have a lot of love to give an animal in need.

Husband doesn't want any more pets. I don't think I do either. He wants to travel more and I can never stand to leave them or am worried about them the whole time. I will probably continue to volunteer to get my pet fix. My catsitter asked if I wanted to join her business but that's more worrying for me, so I don't think so.
I'm sorry about Sheba, SunShine.

I'm sorry, Palermo. You've had a rough time with this and losing your friend recently, too.
Please know that I (and I'm sure a lot of others around here) am thinking about you. Take care of yourself.

Oh Palermo, I am so so sorry. I've said this before, but losing an animal friend is just as painful as losing a person. I'm sure your baby was very loved & happy in her lifetime, and that she knew how much you loved her.

I'm sorry to hear about you losing Missy *hugs* and love to you xxx
Yes losing a pet is heartbreaking, but know you gave her a fantastic life. There is a beautiful Rainbow Bridge poem on here somewhere, it is really heartwarming to read.

I'll post it... it helped me a couple of times...
Quote:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
