Wild Turkeys Reportedly 'Terrorize' Toms River Community

TOMS RIVER, NJ — It may sound like a horror film from a screenwriter who's out of ideas. Residents in Toms River's Holiday City section have been terrorized by a large flock of turkeys just weeks before Thanksgiving, according to News12 New Jersey.

The turkeys have reportedly broken house windows, tried to bite people and continue to block residents' doorways, according to News12. Residents in the 55-and-over community say it's no laughing matter.

"I can't get out of my door," one resident told News12. "Sometimes I can't get out of my car. They go to attack you."

Toms River says its animal control officers are powerless in the situation, since they don't have licenses to trap wildlife. A spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Protection told News12 that Fish and Game is aware of the situation, but he didn't comment further on the matter.

Wildlife officials have warned that turkeys may attempt to dominate or attack people they view as subordinates, according to CBS Boston. This behavior is most common in the fall when young male birds start competing with flock elders, according to experts.

Guess they are mean and territorial like geese and swans.

Iíve heard geese make better guards than dogs because they are so loud and aggressive.
