Owls kind of freak me out ... I've never seen one in real life, but I've heard them so I know they're around here ... you know, the ability to turn their head around, that they kind of just sit in the trees and just watch everything you do, those uber wide eyes and that hoo-hoo-hoo. Then there was that author that supposedly killed his wife, but there is some evidence that she may have been attacked by an owl (there were pieces of owl feathers in her hair and her scalp had what appeared to be talon scratches). But I really admire their beauty. Weird things can be beautiful. I'm wondering if this one was a juvenile because I've seen pics of other people holding them and they seem to be much bigger (try link below ... it's the second picture) than this one. I'm glad they were able to save it ... they really are quite amazing. I've always wanted a barn owl to hang in my yard, I think they are so pretty. They don't have the crazy angry eyes, lol, and their face looks like a heart.

I've seen them late at night (and definitely heard them) out and about and in wildlife preserves. Come to think of it, I used to see them perched high in trees during the day, but some of those particular trees got cut down. They're sweet. This poor baby, though...

Owls have that perpetual WTF? And I will kill you! expression.

    Beautiful raptors though.

Owls are great. My BIL had one as a pet when he was a kid (I think it was a ghost owl), but it was killed by some pesticide that had been sprayed inside the house. This particular owl - Great Horned - supposedly has such amazing eyesight that you could put it at one end zone of a football field and it would be able to read a newspaper in the opposite end zone. If it could read, of course.

    I love owls.

Those yellow eyes are amazing and go perfectly with the firefighter's jacket, lol.
