    Default Heartbroken

I need some cyber hugs. We had to put one of our cats down today. I am heartbroken. He was the sweetest cat and I will miss him dearly. We rescued him 11 years ago -- he actually took up residence in our yard. When we tried to find the owners, the police came and "arrested" him and we followed him through the system so we could adopt him. He was honestly the most wonderful cat. Unfortunately, during his time on "the streets" he contracted feline AIDS (go ahead and make the shared needle and unprotected sex jokes -- the whole thing is so weird) and got symptomatic about 2 years ago. He rapidly declined late summer and we had to let him go. The last time we lost a kitty, my mother was so terribly sick that it was such a blur, but this one I am really feeling. It's horrible. My whole family is so sad. I can't believe how sad I am.

So sorry tulip. I feel your pain. Just think of how much love he brought your family, and how much love and protection you gave him. He had the best possible life with you and for that he was a lucky boy.

Tulip, I do know how you feel. The cat I had from about age 7 to 16 eventually contracted a huge tumor on the side of his thigh. And we made the wrong decision. He was in a lot of pain and my mom could not bring herself, for the longest time to have him put to sleep. He suffered a lot, and cried out a lot, in our basement. Finally, she realized what she had to do. She took him to the vets, still in great pain, and the vet gave him a shot, and my mom said it was like he just went to sleep and all the pain went away. She always regretted not taking him in sooner. You have to learn how to let go. So, even though you're sad, you did the right thing.

Thanks so much for your kind words. My kids, especially my daughter, are incredibly sad. He used to follow her around and would cuddle with her for hours. We knew he was getting sicker when he didn't want her to hold him. He was just so lovely. This big old fat tomcat and he was the sweetest.

    Thank you all.
