    Default Car engine rescue cat...

My SIL sent us an email with a photo yesterday. (It kind of reminded me of the time Mrs. Mohandas rescued a kitten that was sitting, crying in a puddle of oil by the side of the road.) This could have ended really badly, and I don't know how it didn't slip into a fan or fan belt or something. Her email is below (she isn't in a position to adopt him because they have a newborn and about 10 birds):

This cat was in my car's hood. Somehow he got in and had a ride with us from somewhere. I saw feces early yesterday morning but wasn't sure what animal left it. I was thinking about a big rat's. Then in the afternoon I heard "meow" from the car. I just dropped him off at a shelter today... Hope he finds a good home...

Poor sweetheart. Glad he was safe. Please tell me it was a no-kill shelter where she dropped him off....

Good question. I'm not sure yet.

I do miss having a cat. This morning Mrs. Mohandas was talking about how she would wake up in the middle of the night and one of ours (the blue and white Maine Coon) would be nestled between her legs.

Mo you need to ring that shelter and get yourself that kittycat! This is all happening for a reason - you saying a few days ago that you miss having a cat, Mrs Mo talking about one of your old cats and now this. What do you need? A bolt of lightning and a heavenly choir singing? C'mon, how could anyone resist that little gremlin-y face? And rescue cats do make amazing pets....

You guys are making me feel bad. I'm going to wait until I actually hear a heavenly choir sing because my sanity is already on the line, with the new chihuahua, the fish, the canaries, and the parakeet (that my daughter allows to walk around on her bedroom floor with the door open.

By the way, here is the kitten Mrs. Mohandas saved from heavy traffic back in 1998 (adopted by her coworker):

    And dearly departed Maine Coon:

That kitty looks like it has been rescued before with the clipped left ear....sign of rescue fixed and released.

One of the best cats I ever had was rescued from a car engine--he actually survived about a 10 mile drive before the car owner heard his cries when he parked the car. Other than some burns on his paws and covered in grease/dirt, he was just fine. He was the tiniest kitten I ever adopted. RIP, Ziggy. It was a great 14 years with you.

    What a cutie!

I have three cats and a dog and I have to fight the urge daily to add to the herd. Our humane society had a special on cats last week for 5 bucks adoption fees and I was thisclose to hiding them on my FB feed because I wanted one so bad. If I ever win the lotto, I'm buying a giant farm to fill with rescue pets.
