Team Fridge Kitty. I was waiting for the dog to figure out that he could jump on the lower counter and get the cat that way, but dog not as smart as cat here.

I don't think it is wise to encourage the dog to "get" the cat. They may come home and find the cat torn to shreds. And I would be ticked having the dog scratching the shit out of my furniture.
You aren't a kidding about terriers. They LOVE to go after stuff and are not easily deterred, even when you want them to stop. We have had Jack Russell Terriers for years, and my husband coon hunts with them occasionally. I had to wait until our last one was almost 10 years old before we could have any outdoor cats. She finally got old enough she wasn't bothered by them enough to go after them. That old Jack is now almost 17 and can hardly walk, but she did finally grow to love the kitties. But I wouldn't have trusted her as a young dog.
