Dog Reunited with Owner After Alabama Tornado

    Monday March 05, 2012 05:00 PM EST

Their reunion was happy, but bittersweet.

Alabama resident Greg Cook lost his home when a tornado tore through his town of East Limestone, and he thought his dog lost, too.

After sorting through the debris, Cook found his pet Coco – wet, but alive. "It was such a relief," Cook told news station WAFF-TV. "I was happy to see him. I love my dog, he's my best friend and I was just so happy to see him."

So sweet. It's been such a sad few days for the state and it's nice to see a happy ending for somebody.

He wasn't at home at the time of the tornadoes. He rushed home to look for the dog. There's another picture of the dog around and the poor thing looks totally stunned.

    Silly Canadian! He didn't.

    There was a big,big wind.
    See the house?
    Oh,oh. The house falls down.
    All the things are gone.
See the owner? He barely got out.
See the doggy? The dog was covered too.
The nice man found his doggy!
    Good for you, Nice Man!
    Good for you, Doggy!
You were lucky not to end up in two different cities!

Only Greg Cook's beloved dog Coco was home when a tornado tore through his home in Limestone County, Ala.

Cook rushed home after the winds had stopped to find his house and 50 others destroyed. While homes can be repaired, it was his chocolate Labrador that he feared he'd lost forever.

But like the rainbow at the end of the storm, there was some good news when Cook was reunited with Coco, who managed to survive the Category-5 tornado.

According to WAFF.com, Cook sifted through the debris and crawled through a window to find his dog soaking wet and shaking in a hallway.

"It was just such a relief, I was happy to see him," said Cook, who was in tears when they were reunited. "I love my dog, he's my best friend and I was just so happy to see him."

Coco is just one of the miracle survivors of the storm. Fourteen-month-old Angel Babcock was found in a field far from her house but has since died.

See our images of Cook's heartwarming reunion with Coco:

^ A 2 year old girl was found in a field in Indiana following the storms. Her mother, father, brother, and sister had all been killed in the tornado, but she was found alive. They got her to the hospital, but her brain started swelling and she was beyond help, so her grandparents chose to turn off life support. She was buried with her family today.

Only to Dear Grimm. I hold a grudge. For years he has refused to be my Valentne. I am a woman scorned. I can't imagine why!

I know, Twitchy, but I think they were unusual. According to family & friends, the parents stayed right with the toddlers and loved doing everything as a group. It sounds like they were really good parents . That poor Grandmother said that gave her comfort they were still together. Sweet little lamb. I was hoping she would make it.

These tornadoes are getting ridiculous man. Used to be all we had to worry about down here was heat and hurricanes, and with hurricanes you have advance warning to get the hell out of dodge. That shit is terrifying.
