My Husky pup Cali just turned 6 months old. Cali is dealing with a potentially serious health issue, so the vet advised me to wait until she was 6 months old to be spayed, so I planned on doing it later this month.
We were playing with Cali tonight and I noticed a couple drops of blood and immediately knew. I gave her tummy rubs to get a better look, and yep, she's in heat.
Her breeder and vet told me that they usually don't go into heat until around a year old, so I'm a bit shocked.
I'm concerned because I recently went back to work, so Cali spends her day outside in our backyard in large chain-linked dog run. Our wooden privacy fence is 6 feet tall, and her chain-linked kennel is 6 feet tall as well. I know that male dogs will do anything to get to a female in heat.
I'm calling the vet tomorrow to try to get her in this weekend, health permitting. Does anyone have any advice? I googled and there is some info, but I felt the need to turn to my GR friends for trustworthy help.
Thanks guys. I'm sad to see the end of Cali's puppyhood.
