Default My puppy won't stop eating poop

I have a 9 month old chiahuahua mix and while she's a good girl most of the time, she's addicted to eating poop. Not her own but we have an older dog and neighborhood cats take midnight dumps in the yard and no matter how much I clean up poo, she always finds it and nomnomnom. Since she's still a puppy, she's still annoying and I want to throw her outside to go play but I can't because of the poop.

Has anyone had a poop eater before? What fixed it? We sternly go NO and BAD with a swat on the rump if she nibbles on a turd and we catch her in time. She will drop it if we see her going for it, so progress, but mostly it's so frustrating.

    Help!

Mine was (is?) a turd gobbler and I kept trying to discourage it and he'd keep doing it. I think he just finally outgrew it, because nothing I did ever seemed to make him lose interest. He only snacked on his own, but that may be because he's never around any strange.

I can tell you that it did for sure break ME from giving him sweet kisses on the mouth.

If my dog gets a hold of a pair of my son's dirty skid marked undies, he will chew on them. Sorry for the tmi...

Our dog will eat cat poop from their litter box. We've been trying really hard to break the habit and she's not doing it as much as she used to, but occasionally she still has herself a snack.

My sister would say "Where are the cats?" and my nephew would answer "Making doggie treats!".

Turd!! One of my favorite words!

Anyway, my both of my dogs were/are massive cat box crunchers! They would come out with their noses covered in litter. Looked like they were eating little almond roca's

oooo, the hubs just had a good idea. Find poop in the yard and coat it with hot sauce, that ought to be a horrible discovery. I will try it and report back!

^ I just wanted to add that. I did it with my dog when she was a puppy... I coated poop next to our house with tabasco sauce. She never ate poop again.
(But all my neighbours thought I'm complete out of my mind. I mean... What would you think when you see a woman wandering around with a tabasco sauce in her hands, searching for cat poop and splatter them with tabasco? )

Don't give Taco Bell any new ideas for a meal please.

And I thought my dog was the only one who did this, LOL. Mine eats the cat's turds out of the cat litter. I try to clean it as soon as she goes so the dog doesn't get into it. Ugh.

When I had a dog he used to eat poop. Horse poo was his favourite and cow pats! Gross, but there you go. The pleasure of owning a dog lol!

There are things online to discourage poop eaters.. not sure if they work or not and I've heard things like pineapple and other things mixed in their food helps with them not wanting to do it.

As for cat poop- I think it's hopeless..what does cat poop taste like??..probably cat food which dogs love. I have a baby gate to block off the room the litter box is in. The cats jump it, my dog can not.
