Default Baby western lowland gorilla debuts at the Budapest Zoo

N'Yaounda, a western lowland gorilla at Hungary's Budapest Zoo, gave birth to a healthy baby on Jan. 5. The baby is N'Yaounda's first, and it's the first western lowland gorilla birth at the zoo in 10 years.
Of course, zoo staff are overjoyed about the new baby -- but they're also a bit distracted by a mystery surrounding its birth. See, two males -- Golo, a 30-year-old male, and his son, Ebobo, 10 -- both seem to think they're the baby's father. The zoo hopes that DNA testing will solve this gorilla paternity mystery, the Austrian Times reports.
"They both try to protect the mother and baby and both seem to believe it is their son -- which can only mean the mother N'Yaounda may have a bit of explaining to do when we get the results," one keeper told the newspaper. Zoo intrigue -- color us fascinated!
See more photos of N'Yaounda and her baby after the jump.

I'm glad that he's got a good home, and that he is thriving.

Mr Pippin loathes primates with a passion. I always tell him it's because deep down inside he doesn't like people. I know that I am right.

A friend of his once had a chimp as a pet, and when the chimp was caged, it would growl and bare its teeth at Mr. Pip. He knew that Mr. Pip didn't like him. He'd try to swing out a hairy arm to grab Mr. Pip aggressively, too.

Of course, deep down, Mr Pip didn't like the chimp because of his aggressiveness, but more importantly, he was upset to see the animal caged.

Our friend eventually re-homed the chimp to a local zoo. There are certain animals that can't be domesticated and do better in the wild or in a zoo environment with lots of room to roam with species of its own kind.

No wonder the chimp was angry and was destructive when let out of his cage occasionally. He was unhappy.

We've got a baby at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, and it is just fascinating to go there and watch him. He's just like a little human toddler. It's amazing to watch him play with his mother...and annoy her. She gave him quite the smack upside the head when he bit her last time we were there. lol
