Yep, I think some kind of "rule" has to be initiated, maybe we call it the "Rosy Rule", that if you aren't completely secured (however many clicks it takes or whatever your measure is), the coaster doesn't stop and you can't ride on it. Ride operators need to be trained to be firm about this, check every rider and if someone isn't 100% secure, they don't ride.

Everyone who mentioned her size, don't feel bad. That was my first thought when I clicked this thread and saw her picture.
Better to be embarrassed by having to get off a ride because they can't secure the belt or bar...and do the walk of shame past everyone else...than DEAD.

That woman had no business on that ride. If she and family couldn't figure that out, it's probably the attendant's job to clue her in. I don't envy that job. I can just see some butthurt person trying to sue for being embarrassed that someone refused to let their too-large self on a ride, even if it was in the interest of safety.

    Every ride should have this:

Six Flags says that ride does NOT have anything that clicks. There are no clicks at all, according to them. Clicks do sound more like a seat belt which is not used in this ride.

I'll wait for a more impartial source than Six Flags. I can still remember the deadly Six Flags haunted house fire. Shudders.

Wow, Great White will perform anywhere these days....

By the way, Hershey Park does have those test seats. So does Busch Gardens Tampa. I completely forgot about them.

I also know that you're supposed to push the overhead bar down a certain way before it will spring back and stick in position (I assume this creates a "click", even if it doesn't it still is a necessary part of securing yourself in a coaster). If you're seriously overweight there is no way you could push it down far enough to get it to stick on the way back up. You've got to push that thing down quite far.

I think Magic Mountain has those kind of restraints, but only for the rides that go upside down. I think the regular up hill/down the hill roller coasters only have the lap bar.

In any case, I think I recall someone filing a suit here against one of the big theme parks for not allowing them on a ride because they were too big.

There should be a disclaimer stating that if soemone wants to get on a ride and their size prevents the safety belts/harnesses/whatever, from closing properly, and they still choose to ride, they do so at their own risk and the theme park will not take responsbility for any harm. Or better yet, just have a little legal guy walk up to each rollercoaster car and get people's signatures.

You wouldn't get me on one of those mofo's anyway but I suspect that the fear of "discrimination" lawsuits from disgruntled, victimised (waah, waah) fatties allows deluded people to cram themselves into seats that aren't designed to accommodate them safely. The first line of defence should be ride attendants who have the right and the balls to tell people they can't ride.

The article says she expressed concern over her lap bar not being secure. So she knew it wasn't secure (by that I assume it hadn't "clicked" into locked) and she didn't stand up, yell, otherwise stop things from going forward? One look at that coaster and one would know that you have a slim chance of surviving it unless you are locked the fuck down.

Oh good god, because of my height I usually only get one click on rollercoasters.. and i've always been suspicious of it..
