If she would have noticed all the misspellings, that should have been a good clue. Why did she continue to send money, if they never held up their part of the deal??

She doesn't understand the modality and forgot to ask for proof of candy bar! Check out the mistakes in this bank transfer letter and other documents to my baiter id Sir IP Frehley. Who would believe these are actually real??? Not just misspelling on 'official' documents but seriously mangled usage of terms and grammar should always be a tip off.

I love the 'We say sorry' on the first doc.

And yeah, I know AO from the Baiter sites.

I've never gotten the Nigerian e-mail. All the ones I get come from a 'lawyer' in the U.K. telling me that I'm related to some wealthy person that just died and that I just have to send money to begin the process of getting my inheritance. Hitting the delete button is such an easy thing.

That is a Nigerian letter. They rarely say 'Hey I'm in Nigeria!", usually they claim to be a solicitor in London or some other legitimate sounding major city/country. It's only when you run a header tool on the actual email that you discover where in the world the actual solicitation is coming from.

Also, every national tragedy in the US brings out a crop of scammers claiming to be from a legit charity such as the Red Cross asking for large donations for the victims of the tragedy. Be very careful who and how you donate.

we get about 15 of them every single day at the office. and those are just the ones that don't get caught by the spam filter.

.....I get more of the ones that say they want to "buy my product" and pay with a (stolen) credit card.....they never say what the product is or how much or what quality or anything else.....they'll take basically however much of whatever I want to give them......they always want FOB so that they can come and get it before the sucker finds out the card is stolen.....

Never heard of that one. New one on me.

If you like messing with people and tying them up with dumb questions and laughing so hard you fall off your chair then scam baiting is a hobby for you. I think Grimm would a natural at it!

ANY unsolicited email offering you Too Good To Be True money (inheritance, lottery win, bank vault of cash, etc) is a scam. Many of them come from West Africa, but there are a lot of scammers in Eastern Europe and elsewhere.

Victim psychology is interesting. Yes they are gullible and trusting (and greedy to an extent) but victims like this woman become so wrapped up in the scam and so desperately want to believe the millions they've been promised are just about to be sent that they carry on.

I compare it to a gambling addiction. You know deep down that you are losing your money but you keep spinning the wheel just one more time hoping that this time you will win.

There is also a lot of denial and shame. Many victims get sucked in and cannot see any way out except to keep on paying because they can't admit to themselves that they've been conned and the money is gone. It's easy to say they are greedy and dumb and many are, but you'd be shocked at the number of apparently intelligent, successful people who get sucked in.

They have another new one they are pulling as well. On craiglist for people looking for rental houses (and I'm sure on other free sites). They show a pic from a nice house that is priced well-below others in the area. When you contact them to get additional information, they send you some long drawn out story about being missionaries to West Africa and they will be gone for years, god bless, blah, blah, snore. They attach a rental application and tell you to send it back to confirm your interest. If you e-mail them back to ask to see the place before you do the app, you will never hear from them again.

I wonder how many idiots have had their identity stolen with this scam already.
