I just can't wrap my head around the fact that a helicopter parent would go so far as to bully her daughter's depressed friend in that capacity, its truly mind-blowing. I do understand your point though.
And I understand yours. I don't have kids, but if I did and some adult was bullying them...well...let's just say I have a gun. I might go to prison if I was pissed off enough.

I wonder if Lori could be remanded to a state psychiatric hospital? It sounds like she is a sociopath, and psych hospital convictions can be longer and more terrifying than prison sentences.

I do think this prosecution is stretching the law (and violating Lori's right of habeus corpus or whatever it is), but a 40-something year old woman vs a 12-year old girl is a fight that is unfair at the core, and sneaky lawyering is a potential way to get revenge. But on the other hand, this case should be held up to preteen girls as an example to not be rash and to perservere in spite of hostility. And it should serve as a reminder for parents to be REAL parents, and to apply firm standards even in the realm of technology.

The prosecutors are using the wrong laws to prosecute this woman.

They are applying a federal law, in a way that would apply to almost anyone here at GR.

If everything you have posted in your account isn't true, and you then harass someone on line you too can be charged under this thinking. There's a slippery slope for you.

The woman was wrong, but this use of the law is dangerous, and the people that are for the prosecution now might feel differently if the law was turned on them.

The government is abusing it's power here. People are taking it calmly because the womans behavior was reprehensible, but the governments charge is reprehensible as well. The law is to protect us all, even people who commit disgusting acts.

doesn't an adult harassing a child constitute child abuse, even if the bitch in question wasn't the girl's mother or legal guardian or relative? they should try her for that, not the charges they're using against her now.

I think they would have charged her with that months ago if it were that simple; they really struggled to find anything to charge her with.

that's the feeling i get as well.
well, maybe this case will at least serve to get new laws that cover this kind of abuse.
