    By being in the EU there is some hope that these medieval arseholes will be forced into the 21st century, or at least the 20th.

    EU Law trumps any countries own laws, hence people going to EU court against these draconian laws and the govt working groups.

    But tbh there is little benefit to being in the EU at the moment unless you are a poor country.
