This story is really weird. And I wonder why the authorities are so quick to dismiss any significance of her having a bloody chin??

Yeah, my thoughts exactly.

I'm a bit perturbed that the police don't think its relevant that she had a scrape on her face consistent with falling down. Hello! Maybe she fell down because someone was dragging her / attacking her? Maybe she got into it with her attacker once, and was going to the restroom to clean up, only to get into it with him/her once again? It seems that with this apparently little to go on, the police would explore every option.

I too find it a bit strange that the police are so quick to dismiss the chin injury... in cases like these I would expect investigators to view ANYTHING as evidence and at least follow a lead before completely ruling it out. According to the JPJ Arena site a) you can't be readmitted with a ticket and b) there are designated outdoor smoking areas in two specific seating sections. I don't know why security didn't tell her any of this... and what's more, I don't know why her friends allowed her to try at catch a ride home on her own. This is so sad.

Yeah, I am tempted to think that the facial injury is something that leaked out that the police didn't want leaked out, and they're trying to draw attention away from it.

Her own behavior is odd, and so is that of the people she went to the show with. This story creeps me out.

It is very puzzling. This is quite a good round up of events, although I don't think it mentions her injury. The Hook - COVER- 'Off the face of the earth': the hunt for Morgan Harrington

I hate to say it, but there are so many wooded areas near Charlottesville off of route 29. It's not good.

i attended a metallica show last year in des moines, they had security stamp your hand to go out to smoke. this is the case for most of the concerts ive attended over the past 6 years or so. as to what happened to her, i think maybe she came across the wrong person and rhe only thing left to be found of her is a decomposing corpse.its been almost a month with no new leads, sadly, this means she is either dead or doesnt want to be found.

This isn't really an update but this information was just released...
Missing Va. Tech student spotted hitchhiking, police say

By: Freeman Klopott
Examiner Staff Writer
November 15, 2009

Virginia State Police say a Virginia Tech student who went missing last month was spotted hitchhiking after she left a Metallica concert.
Authorities have been searching for 20-year-old Morgan Dana Harrington since she disappeared following the Charlottesville concert Oct. 17. The student was separated from friends when she left the concert to smoke a cigarette and was denied re-entry. She told them she would try to find a way home in a voice mail message.
On Friday police said they believed Harrington was spotted hitchhiking near the concert.

Hitchhiking... really?

Was she never taught about safety? I'm also wondering why this information wasn't released until now...

Wow. Hitchhiking is a really good way to get killed. Especially as a young woman. I did it once, way way against my better judgment, but was with my then-boyfriend and we were truly stranded. Even then, I was scared shitless and the guy who picked us up was an old drunk. Normal people don't pick up hitchhikers. I don't hold out any hope for this girl's survival.

That's not necessarily true. My husband and I make it a point to pick up hitchhikers, and we were picked up ourselves by some very decent people - including old ladies and RV-ing families - over 20 times while touring Scotland.

Perhaps it's safer there? Fewer psychos? I would strongly advise against it, though. There are about as many people killed BY hitchers as vice versa.

Hitchhiking is not safe here in the US (in my opinion). It's probably a bit dicey anywhere, but I know in other parts of the world it still probably pretty safe. But not here.

Certainly most girls/women know not to take that chance. I can't believe she would be that careless and take that chance.

Me, too. Don't blame Virginia Tech for the youth of today.

Hitch hiking? It sucks that she was missing but 1. what a dumbass move. 2. Wtf kind of friends would say "Well sucks to be you, good luck getting home."
I would have given her the keys to my car and asked her to pick us up after, or gone back with her, orr let her take the car and find the way home with other friends: safety in numbers.
