And here I was holding out hope that the father really wasn't involved, that the children had one sane parent left. Oh well

You know the other thing about these guys whose wives disappear and they claim they up and ran off with another man -- wouldn't you, for the sake of your children -- move heaven and earth to find their mother and make for damn sure that nothing horrible happened to her?

If you really didn't know what happened to her, even if you think there is betrayal involved, I would think you'd still want to find her. I also find it so curious that the only ones who ever are looking for the women are their blood relations, never the husband. And, if she did leave the husband for another man, why wouldn't she contact her parents or siblings? These women are so obviously dead, and it makes me ill that these men get away with it. My husband worked with Lisa Stebic's sister, and I can't even tell you the anguish the family goes through.

I hope they've cracked this case.

Susan Powell's Parents Granted Custody of Boys

After hearing concerns that Josh Powell caused his wife Susan's disappearance, a judge in Washington state Wednesday stripped Powell of custody of his two young sons.

Charlie Powell, 6, and Braden Powell, 4, will live with Susan's parents, Charles and Judy Cox, who have complained almost since the time of Susan's Dec. 6, 2009, disappearance that Josh would not let them see the boys, even though Josh lives only a couple of miles away.

"If he's responsible for that disappearance, those children have been through hell, frankly," John Long, an assistant attorney general representing Child Protective Services, told Pierce County Superior Court Judge Kathryn J. Nelson, who concluded that it was unsafe to keep the boys with their father.

Powell, 35, has only been named a person of interest in Susan's disappearance from their home in West Valley City, Utah, and her vanishing is still considered a missing person's case, not a homicide. Powell says he took the boys camping overnight in a snowstorm, and when he came back, Susan was missing.

Weeks later, Powell moved himself and the boys into his father Steven Powell's house in Puyallup, Wash. But a week ago, Steven, 61, was on 14 counts of voyeurism and one count of second-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct after authorities searched the family's computers. He has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed on $200,000 bail.

    Steven Powell's Past

According to documents obtained by the Associated Press from Steven Powell's 1992 divorce, his ex-wife, Terri Powell, accused him of keeping pornography, damaging his children's respect for marriage and inappropriately discussing sexual issues with the kids when they were as young as 6 and 8.

Long also told the judge that Josh Powell admitted to CPS workers that he has surreptitiously photographed people's legs, and that some of Steven Powell's information may be on his computer. Josh Powell disputed this claim in court.

All of this leaves Josh with minimal custody, at least until a Nov. 15 status hearing. Nelson said Josh could have three-hour, supervised visits on Sundays. She also ordered Josh to undergo psychological evaluations, including an assessment of whether he's a fit parent.

Reacting to the court orders, Josh Powell looked stunned, telling the judge he was "expecting to bring my sons home. I had no reason to expect they would not be placed back with me," reports the Salt Lake Tribune.

Josh also denied any involvement in his wife's disappearance. "I love my wife, I know my wife loves my children," he said. "I want my wife back as much as anyone else wants her back."

After reading what his ex said about him having inappropriate sexual discussions with the children when they were little, I'm pretty sure he did something to that girl.

Following Steven's arrest, the state Children's Administration removed Susan and Josh's 4- and 6-year-old sons from his home. The boys have been placed in the home of Susan's parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, until further court notice...

...Chuck Cox's attorney, Steve Downing, said... that the children were at risk because they had never received counseling about their mother's 2009 disappearance... and they had been estranged from their maternal grandparents without explanation.

Son. Of. A. Creepy. Pedo. Bastard! I mean, obviously the father wouldn't want to risk taking the kids to couselling; the oldest might have wanted to discuss their last family car ride, when mummy wouldn't wake up. Like Trixie mentioned, it'll be hard for the kids to be around grandparents they're not used to, but I'm thrilled for the parents' sake and I'm sure they're spoiling the grandkids rotten.

The sex chats with under age children turns my stomach and makes me want to scream and cry and scream because I experienced the same thing from an adult relative with I was little. They get off on it, but it can also be a "grooming technique" for later physical abuse. KrisNine is right - the daughter was exploited by her father. I don't want to know if it remained verbal/emotional, or progressed.

Josh went BACK to his father and brought his two small children BACK to the same perverted environment. He's okay with it; he may have assimilated it from his father. He's claiming ignorance but if the techs can link him to the images, watch the prick cry "victim" too. SMH. Stick 'em both in general population and tape "pedo" to their backs.

Josh Powell blows up the house with the kids in it

GRAHAM -- An explosion and fire at the home of Josh Powell has killed two children and an adult male believed to be Powell and his two young sons, officials say.

The explosion shook the normally quiet cul-de-sac neighborhood at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, and flames roared through the home near the intersection of 182nd Street and 84th Avenue.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving multiple frantic 911 calls, where they found two young victims and an adult male victim.

Graham Deputy Chief Gary Franz said it's believed that the victims are Josh Powell and his two young sons.

Powell's wife Susan disappeared in December 2009 under suspicious circumstances while the couple was living in Utah, and he lost custody of his two sons last year.

Franz said a case worker had just dropped off Powell's sons at the home Sunday afternoon for a supervised visit. Powell then shut the door on the caseworker and locked it.

The case worker reported smelling gas fumes, and suddenly an explosion ripped through the home.

The sudden and tragic development was the latest in a dizzying series of twists in the case of missing mom Susan Powell.

Just last week a Pierce County judge had ruled that Powell's two young sons must remain in the custody of Susan Powell's parents.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Kathryn J. Nelson also ruled that Josh Powell must undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation and polygraph test before he could regain custody of his sons. But he was allowed two supervised visits a week.

Powell told police he last saw his wife Susan at about midnight on Dec. 7, 2009, just before he and the couple's young sons - then 4 and 2 - headed out for a winter camping trip in subfreezing temperatures in the Utah desert.

Since then, Josh Powell has been the only named person of interest in connection with her disappearance.

So, Josh Powell no longer had custody but was allowed a supervised visit. I wonder if anything could have been done differently to prevent this from happening.

Also, whose home was it? Not his dad's? Was it a place he was renting or something?

Wow. This infuriates me! Why was visitation done at his house when they knew he was unstable???? Why was the asshole never brought to trial for murder? Those poor kids...I can not imagine how the grandparents are feeling right now.
