That's true! Heck, in Houston on the 610 freeway, people drive 85-90 anyway...speed limit or not.

Sounds about right... I always thought 10 to 15 over was okay on a freeway but I always slow down properly for residential areas & school zones. Seattle has seriously slowed me down, I-5 is a joke, I can go faster on surface streets.

Truthfully, I can go 85-90 without even realizing it. If it's open road, why not? there's NOTHING on I-80 between Des Moines and Omaha. Your biggest risk is falling asleep.

People are driving at that speed anyway - it has never mattered what the limit is. People drive however fast they can get away with.

Just returned from my vacation in Alberta - the drive on the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Lake Louise is a free for all. No RCMP anywhere, unless you're close to civilization. One female in a sporty Audi on the TransCanada just past Lake Louise sped past me at a high clip, only to run into an RCMP who had pulled someone else over already going the other way. The guy had a ton of guts - he stepped out into the middle of her lane, waved her down and forced her to pull over. Drivers sped past me at well past 80MPH.

I agree about those red light cameras & normally I would disagree with what I said in my previous post, but 85 mph speed limit is plenty high & there is absolutely no reason to speed when you are already allowed to go 85.

Really though I just would prefer if they lower that to 75.

I checked, I think it's about 130. Well, the limit in most European countries is between 120 and 140, and germany doesn't have a speed limit on highways. Do they have more accidents and deaths on the road than the US?
The only thing I would worry about is that it's harder to get your driver's license in Europe than in the US and that might influence the quality of people's driving on the roads.

They are making it a bit more difficult to get a license in Texas, I think you have to be 18 now and you have to take classes if under 21.

Nope, you can still get it at 16. I have several friends whose kids just got their licences over the summer & the kids are 16.

Texas might have what NC has. 15 is a permit, 16 is a provisional license with some restrictions, and 18 is a full unrestricted license.

Meh. It's like that on the motorway near the big connobations - but everyone knows not the speed in Scotland, coz they're tougher than England where this kind of speed is the "norm".
