I think in Italy their universal health care extends to tourists as well. I remember reading it in a guidebook, luckily I didn't have to experience it first hand

oh yeah that's right.... ONLY liberals allowed, NO dissenting opinions allowed on the board. That's peace, love, tolerance, all those leftist qualities showing themselves.

It does and it's good. Landed in the hospital there once. Just as good of care as the states. Socialized medicine is NOT the end of the world.

Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Bart goes to fat camp, and Homer has to make ends meet by turning the house into a hostel for German backpackers.

    German backpacker, berating Homer:

"...problem 348 viss Amerika: no universal healthcare! What is this, the time of Charlemagne?"

I wish we did have universal healthcare. When I was between jobs a few years ago, I was temporarily without insurance and it sure made getting my medication a hassle. I enrolled in a program run by a pharmaceutical company to get my anti-depressants, and there was so much red tape I was almost tempted to just say the heck with it and just do without the medication. I was so glad when I got a job and my insurance kicked in. Although prior to my getting insurance the pharmaceutical company was giving the medication to me for free, I would rather pay a co-pay for my medication than deal with all the hassle and red tape and hassle of patient assistance programs.
