Well, I am glad they found the little girl safe. I hope someone responsible steps up to care for her. Doesn't seem like her parents are able to do that at this time. Sad for any child stuck in this lifestyle.

EXCLUSIVE: Drugs, jealousy, constant demands for cash and a tawdry tug-of-love over an 'abducted' niece: Leonardo DiCaprio's bitter family feud laid bare

    • Mike Farrar, father of Leondaro DiCaprio's troubled step-brother Adam Farrar, speaks out after his granddaughter Normandie was 'abducted'
    • Normandie is the daughter of Adam Farrar and girlfriend Charity Moore, both in custody over drug and theft charges in Texas
    • Normandie was reported as 'abducted' by Department of Justice in July 2013
    • She was located in Texas last month and is now with grandparents Peggy and George DiCaprio in Los Angeles
    • Mike admits Adam, who has struggled with drugs, is 'depressed', saying: 'He knows he screwed up'
    • Adam and Oscar-nominated Leo have been estranged for years
    • Mike insists that it’s Leo’s good looks that have made him a superstar and NOT his acting ability – claiming his hard-core partying is taking its toll.

Troubled: Leonardo DiCaprio's stepbrother Adam Farrar in an never-before seen picture with his father Michael Farrar, who has now lifted the lid on the Oscar nominee's long feud with his stepbrother

His polished performance in The Wolf of Wall Street has assured Leonardo DiCaprio an Oscar nod and cemented his position on Hollywood’s A list.

But for the first time, MailOnline can reveal the claims of a bitter family feud made by the father of the charismatic star’s troubled step-brother - following the 'abduction' of the actor's niece Normandie.

Mike Farrar speaks out as his son Adam Farrar and girlfriend Charity Moore remain in custody following their arrests over drug and theft charges in Texas in January. The couple had fled California with their six-year-old daughter Normandie last summer.

And Mike tells how Leonardo, 39, fell out with Adam, the stepbrother he was once so close to, after growing tired of his persistent demands for money - and envy over his fame.

Family outing: Leonardo DiCaprio's 6-year-old niece Normandie Farrar (center) is currently living with her grandfather George DiCaprio (right) and grandmother Peggy (left) in Los Angeles after being 'adbucted' by her parents to Texas

Furious that his ex-wife Peggy and her husband, Leo's father George DiCaprio, now have Normandie in their custody, Mike - who admits his son struggles with drugs - says: ‘Adam loves that child and would never do anything to hurt her'.

After going to rebab, 'He completely cleaned himself up', Mike says, 'he probably could have qualified to take Normandie', before admitting: 'It's not going to happen now.’

Normandie was reported as a Los Angeles County missing child on July 31, 2013 - and was listed as 'abducted' on the county's missing children website after her parents Adam Farrar and Charity Moore took her on the run.

Adam and Charity were eventually arrested on drug and theft charges in Texas last month. They remain in custody.

However, Mike, 69, says he actually tried to help them much as possible ‘within legal bounds’, admitting he knew where the couple were the entire time.

Speaking from his home in Haiwaii for the first time since his granddaughter was put into his ex-wife’s custody, Mike tells MailOnline of the chaotic moments leading up to his son’s arrest.

Peggy, he said, had first reported her son Adam and his girlfriend Charity to the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) TWO YEARS ago, adding: ‘My ex-wife, Peggy DiCaprio, of the great famous DiCaprio family, felt she needed to take Normandie into custody herself, but she met a lot of resistance from both Adam and Charity.

‘She said ‘they’re drug addicts, they’re not feeding this child’ and she thinks the only way Normandie is going to be safe is not with her parents and that’s a bunch of c**p.
'I mean I have pictures of her at Halloween last year, it’s just a beautiful family.’

Mike, a retired graphic artist, said Adam, 43, and Charity, 38, were so terrified of losing their child that they went on the run to Texas, where they holed up in a safe house and resorted to homeschooling Normandie.

He claimed: ‘Charity and Adam ran because they felt like Peggy was going to get the child.

‘They ran with Normandie down to Louisiana, and then to Texas and they were running and running and the whole time they were just avoiding the obvious that they were going to get caught eventually.

‘I was in touch the entire time and I supported them and I don’t mind saying that at all, because I love my child and my granddaughter and Charity.

‘So I helped them as much as I could within legal bounds, and they moved to a safe house in Texas.’

Mike claims: ‘They were afraid. They didn’t have anything and they were up against attorneys and millions of dollars and you know it’s the County of Los Angeles.’

Charity was arrested on January 20 after being pulled over for a broken headlight while on the way to her grandfather’s funeral in Louisiana.

'Adam and Charity were afraid. They didn't have anything and they were up against attorneys and millions of dollars...I supported them and I don't mind saying that'

    Mike Farrar

She was arrested on misdemeanor charges including three counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a dangerous drug, theft of property under $500, and contributing to her child's non-attendance at school.

Adam was caught on January 24 later when he tried to visit Charity in jail. His charges include misdemeanor counts of possession of a dangerous drug, theft and harassment by phone. Jail records show all of the charges were outstanding warrants issued by Los Angeles authorities.

Disturbingly, Mike admits Normandie was left in the care of a 'strange' man, who was a 'friend of a friend' when her parents were arrested, whom he says was ‘very possibly drunk’.

And he confesses the little girl was ‘flipping out’ when her parents did not return home.

Hauled away crying and screaming, Mike says, Normandie was taken back to Los Angeles and is now being cared for by her grandparents.

He says: ‘I’m sure she’s just scared out of her mind and all she wants to do is be reunited with her dad and mom. It’s just gut-wrenching, and I have a very hard time sleeping just thinking about it every night. It’s tearing at me.’

Speaking about their arrests, Mike said: ‘Both Adam and Charity have had petty narcotic possession arrests. Adam’s a little worse… it’s been going on for a while. Charity just had some prescription drugs that she didn’t have a prescription for.’

Asked what drugs Adam was addicted to, his father replied: ‘It’s not publicly known but he has been arrested for possession of heroin.

‘I don’t know the extent of his use. He always talks to me very clear-headed and straight forward and neither one of them ever seems like they’re on drugs. I don’t think they do anymore drugs than anyone else in the world does.

Mike HAS spoken to his son in prison, revealing: ‘Deep down he knows where he screwed up. Charity on the other hand feels like everybody is against her and there’s no reason for this to be happening and I think she maybe needs to do a little deeper thinking.

'I'm sure Normandie's just scared out of her mind and all she wants is to be reunited with her dad and mom..it's just gut-wrenching'
    Mike Farrar

‘Charity is a very strong-willed person, she’s a very good mother. She’s would brush toilets to keep Normandie fed.

‘Their whole plan was to just settle down in Texas with their little family, Adam had a job all lined up, he was ready to clean up and go to work. He was going to work scaffolding construction work, and he’s enlisted in a drug rehab program that was helping him and I do believe it would have all worked out if the system could have been a little different.'

Although Mike hasn’t seen Leonardo since he was 10, he revealed why the star fell out with Adam - as he insists that it’s Leo’s good looks that have made him a superstar and not his acting ability, claiming that his hard-core partying is taking its toll.

He said: 'Adam’s a very difficult person to be around. Adam borrowed money, was constantly borrowing money and not ever paying back and I think that might have been the wedge that really separated them. Adam I still think might be slightly envious of Leonardo.

‘Leonardo wouldn’t even talk to Adam, right now he would have nothing to say to Adam.'

Leo was born to Irmelin and George DiCaprio, a Los Angeles comic book artist, but his parents divorced when he was a toddler. Speaking about his childhood just last week, Leonardo told the Los Angeles Times how he was brought up in a drug-riddled neighbourhood in LA - occasionally watching people smoking crack and shooting heroin in an alley near his home.

He said: 'I try to tell my godson, who lives close to that area, what it was like, how there used to be a major prostitution ring on my street corner, crime and violence everywhere. It really was like 'Taxi Driver' in a lot of ways... I grew up very poor and I got to see the other side of the spectrum.'

The Titanic star remained close to his father who moved in with Peggy when he was one. George later married Peggy and Leo and Adam were extremely close as children.

As a child Adam starred in TV commercials and landed parts in the late 1970s series Eight Is Enough and Battlestar Galactica.

And it was Adam’s early career that inspired Leo to go into showbusiness but he soon eclipsed Adam when he started landing roles in his teens.

Mike said: 'Adam was just the perfect red-haired goofy looking kid who was in McDonalds hamburger commercials and he did a little bit of movie stuff and he would make money and then Leonardo got started.

'Adam seemed to want to slip away and just go skateboarding, but he was 100 times better than Leonardo as an actor, let me tell you.'

While Leo became a megastar after Titanic in 1997, Adam's career derailed, however, they remained close.

But their relationship became strained when in 2000 Adam was arrested on charges that he attempted to kill his then-girlfriend and made terrorist threats.

They were last pictured together at an LA Lakers game four years ago and now do not speak at all.

Mike says: 'They loved partying and beautiful women, it was really a loss for Adam.

'Adam’s a very depressed kid now, very depressed about everything. The system has really come down on him hard.'

Mike says Peggy also cut off Adam about 10 years ago - tired of the trouble he caused, while Adam, Mike adds, was upset as he felt Peggy doted on Leo.

'Most definitely he feels she favors Leonardo... Well wouldn’t you?' Mike said: 'The little cash cow. That’s a big part of Adam’s depression I’m sure. I believe I know him very well and I think his mum has no interest in him at all.'

Meanwhile, Mike believes Leonardo is in bad shape himself.

He said: 'Leonardo he’s got his own problems too. He’s getting older, he’s not going to be able to wow the teenage girls much longer.

'He parties pretty heavily, from what I’ve heard, I can’t say for sure, but he’s not in great shape.

'Last I heard about him from Adam, I assume it’s right, [is] that he smokes and drinks and just parties too hard and he’s going to lose it. I don’t believe he is healthy.'

He added: 'He might not be 40 yet but he’s going to have to start playing older people for instance. I think it’ll be tough.

'My opinion is, he’s in great movies but he has great support. I think a lot of it is because he gets a De Niro, you know somebody who really helps make the movie.

'He doesn’t do much except pose in front of the camera. That’s what people want to see, they want to see him. They don’t really think about his acting abilities. He’s not anything great. He’s not a Cary Grant, he’s just not that caliber.'

Lord, what a mess!! But, I am glad the little girl is safe. She is a cutie! I sure hope that George and Peggy can give the child a stable and loving home. Doesn't sound like her Adam or Charity will be out of jail anytime soon, either in Texas or California.

Yeah, you haven't seen Leo in over 20 years, but he's in bad shape. Poser.

Mike Farrar is an enabler with his head buried in the sand.

Furious that his ex-wife Peggy and her husband, Leo's father George DiCaprio, now have Normandie in their custody, Mike - who admits his son struggles with drugs - says: ‘Adam loves that child and would never do anything to hurt her'.

Except maybe get clean and sober and not break the law.

He claimed: ‘Charity and Adam ran because they felt like Peggy was going to get the child.
And the outstanding drugs and theft warrants had absolutely nothing to do with it...

Speaking about their arrests, Mike said: ‘Both Adam and Charity have had petty narcotic possession arrests. Adam’s a little worse… it’s been going on for a while. Charity just had some prescription drugs that she didn’t have a prescription for.’
Oh well, no big deal then...

While Leo became a megastar after Titanic in 1997, Adam's career derailed, however, they remained close.

But their relationship became strained when in 2000 Adam was arrested on charges that he attempted to kill his then-girlfriend and made terrorist threats.
But he's a good guy really!

Mike says: 'They loved partying and beautiful women, it was really a loss for Adam.
What was a loss? Leo in his life or the partying and women who wouldn't have looked twice at him if he hadn't been with a famous actor?

He said: 'Leonardo he’s got his own problems too. He’s getting older, he’s not going to be able to wow the teenage girls much longer.
Do teenage girls still swoon over him? I would have thought that they'd be much busier swooning over the younger actors, which would mean that he's holding on to his career by *shock* acting ability!

No more teenage swooners. Leo has to console himself with Victoria's Secret models. Poor schlub.
