the foods that mess up your body and make you fat are corn syrup, white sugar, white flour, processed oils and processed pre-made crap.

If money is an issue, perhaps the obese women who need the widened doors in hospitals should be expected to pay a higher fee, this way not everyone has to pay for other people's problems. This is done with health insurance premiums, as well as plane tickets.

It seems there a lot of defense for overweight people in this topic. I have nothing against overweight people and I know that people who live healthy and eat healthy can still be overweight. At my gym some of the teachers in the class are overweight but obviously they get exercise don't they? People are built differently and especially if you've been overweight as a child, you probably will not be the slimmest person in the planet as an adult even if you eat healthy and exercise. Also, BMI's are just quide lines. A bodybuilder can have a BMI of 35, muscle weighs more than fat.
Having said that, if you are so big that you need special doorways then you have a problem. I'm sorry but no one is obese if they eat fairly healthy and exercise. You can still be overweight but not obese. Yes it is an eating disorder, but eating disorders are mental problems. Just like with anorexia, you should go to therapy to find the root of the problem but the same time you should fix your eating and exercise habits. And about the thyroid condition thats been thrown in the forums a few times, I'm a hypothyroid and yes I did gain weight a few pounds before I was diagnosed but after the medication started working, I got more energy and lost them. I feel that people just use it as an excuse to justify their lack of motivation.

Yes, people have to eat but they can choose what they eat.

I don't think they always can, some brain malfunctions will make resisting sugar almost impossible.
There have also been studies done on mice which indicate that the bacteria we have in our intestines determines what we crave and eat, a healthy bacteria made the mice eat healthy, a overgrowth of bad bacteria made the mice eat bad foods. Then they gave some of the good bacteria to the obese mice and they became thinner.
There is a lot we don't know about the biochemistry of the human body and the people who do research admit it, so I don't know how someone who haven't studied as much as them can know more and be so certain?
There is also a theory about the fat epidemic being caused by a virus, so much is not known at the moment.

Yes, and there are theories about people being genetically predisposed to smoking or alcoholism and we know that the urge to drink or smoke can be irresistible to some people who are very addicted, too.

it appears people cannot even acknowledge the simple fact that obese people drain the health care system...

Rica, what does that matter? The health care system in the US is a drain upon itself, whether there was never another fat person or not.
Anyone can drain the health care system:
- People addicted to pain pill....they will do anything, even go through surgeries that they don't need in order to get another fix.
- Skinny people....some refuse to eat, therefore have to placed in the hospital or they will die.
- Self inflicted.......from suicide's that don't get completed, to people that have heart problems from too many drugs, to people that drink to much and have to be sent to detox, to people that cut themselves just because they need attention, to people that have babies (you know it's not like you have to have one and the world is overly populated anyway, so that could be a strain on health care and on the planet).
I guess fat people aren't the only one's that drain the health care system.

Alot of things are a drain on the system, I'm not denying that, but obese people pose a lot of health risks that are a result of the kinds of food they eat, the amounts, and lack of exercise. Its something very preventable.
*waits for list of other things that are also a drain and preventable*

Yes, please let's kill all the fat fucks and be done with it. After that, I move that we kill everyone in prison. After that, I want everyone who is unemployed killed. After that, everyone with cancer dies. after cancer, lets take out everyone with aids. Fucking drains!
Now, if that doesn't take care of the strain on our healthcare, I'll kiss my own ass....

Hey, I'm just trying to get rid of some of the drains. Let's give them a time limit to lose weight, and if they don't do it then we kill them....
