Why is everyone bringing up other things that are drains on the health care system, or defending obese people instead of just agreeing that obese people have a lot of health problems that people who are of more healthy weigh? Because people smoke and create health problems for them, does that mean that obese people arent creating health problems for themselves?
@Ahti, where did I state I wanted everyone to be the same? If someone wants to eat themselves to death then I dont give a flying fuck. Let them. Dont hide from the truth: Obese people have many unnecessary health problems that if they ate healthier and exercised more they would lose those health problems.

lazy people are damn annoying

99%? Really? I wasn't aware of that. Because most obese people I know have an eating disorder, which is a DISEASE. A disease that is almost impossible to beat.
Labeling all obese people as lazy is pretty presumptuous.
I take it, you take your own advice and live healthily? So that you don't end up being a drain on the system?
I also assume, since you find lazy people "damn annoying", that you are never lazy? Always productive, useful to society and never playing online?
What I'm trying to say is, don't be so fucking judgemental. If you are worried about the system, start with minimizing the damage YOU do.

Food is just too quick & easy now. Used to be that if you wanted something to eat, you had to cook it. Now, you can grab bags of stuff, or boxes of stuff, or pop stuff in the microwave, or drive through somewhere & not even expend the calories of getting out of your car. Makes me think of those commercials and advertisements from the 50's & 60's where a beautifully-groomed woman with an apron around her tiny waist would be glowing with happiness because a food company had made something easier to cook.
There are plenty of times I would have said just forget it & not eaten a snack if I would have had to go to any trouble in making it.

^^Ain't it the truth. Our microwave died a few weeks ago, and you never heard more whining in the mere 24 hours it took me to replace it. You'd think no one ever heard of heating something up in the regular old oven or something.

It's not just the convenient, high-calorie snacks and meals. It's also the total lack of exercise. In an information-economy, you basically work out your fingertips, and that's it. It's not burning the calories that working in a steel mill or digging a ditch, or some other physically taxing jobs would do.

I don't buy this entirely.
Not to say there aren't a WHOLE LOT of fat people (I was one of the millions for a long time), but I don't think this store is entirely factual.

I would guess that most of them are victorian - my pa used to work ina victorian building & even the double doors were only 4 ft wide.

I would put money on the fact that I eat a whole lot healthier than a number of people on here (I get my "five-a-day" in fruit & veg, rather than just aiming for it); I exercise well eventhough I'm recovering from major surgery, and I'm still a US14 (5'8") and BMI of 34.
So don't tell me that I'm fucking lazy or that I need to eat healthier. STOP making assumptions about things that you know nothing about.

Great post Chilly.
I doubt that a lot of people see that overeating is infact an addiction rather than just laziness and ignorence. I see that one can have general igonrence without having to be obese!

I'm just loving all this fat defense around here. Really, I actually agree with a lot of it: I do think food addiction is a serious problem and I also agree that someone can be large yet still be healthy even though the numbers indicate that excess body weight is associated with numerous health conditions. I just wonder why more people don't see smokers the same way. Obama has smoked for eons and he is fit as a fiddle. Find me other 47 yr olds in as good as shape as him. Yes, smoking is a health risk, but there are plenty of smokers who are healthy even though people just love to jump to conclusions that anyone who smokes is at death's door. Just because it is a risk factor doesn't mean you aren't in excellent health now. And smoking addiction is just as hard to beat as food addiction.

Is he really fit? Runners drop dead from heart attacks all the time, get shin fratures, etc. People get cancer all the time.... One doesn't have to smoke or lead an unhealthy lifestyle to get ill, cancer strikes anyone at anytime.
BTW - mine wasn't "fat defense" per se but I really can't tolorate stupid. To mis-paraphrase Churchill.... "I won't be fat in the morning, you'll always be stupid" LOL
Incidently - I meant to mention it before. The lovely Jamie did a tv prog on "fat" people and there was a thin guy and a rugby player (who, according to his BMI was obses as we all know that muscle is heavier than fat) the thin guy had something like 25% fat where as the obese guy had 15%.... It was very interesting.

I see your point. There was an aerobic teacher at my old gym who was really overweight. She wasn't the 'big but solid' type fat woman, either, she was jiggly and flabby with big old flabby upper arms that swayed. But damn, she could lead that 40 minute class and talk through it the entire time. It was something to see. It inspired me because there was no way in hell my little 120 lb ass was going to give up when this fatty who had about 15 yrs age on me could keep going nonstop and do it several times a day to boot.

LOL! Thats funny!
We call those arms "bingo wings"....
I know that I'm suffering from my genes but hell I don't remember it being this hard to loose in the past - indeed I've never had to diet before! Unfortunately my mum looks like a russian shot putter... and its all muscle (or it used to be) and my Aunt is also a "large" lady who once told me that the only time she lost weight was when she was preggers...
My Dr looked at me & said that he didn't beleive I was BMI 34, but unfortunately with the NHS its a numbers game & not accounting for anything else - BMI is the new holy grail!

I think a food addiction would be harder to overcome, since you HAVE to eat, there's no getting around it. Nobody HAS to smoke.
