There has been a pedophile case revealed now. A mom, her boyfriend (stepfather of the kids) and the mom's male friend sexually abused and raped two of the woman's kids for years. The other kid was 1-3 years old and the other 4-8 years old during the time of the abuse. The other had been handcuffed to the bed and they had been forced to do group sex and all kinds of nasty things.
The stepfather got 10 years without probation, the biggest sentence of them all. The male friend got 8 years and the evil mom got friggin 7 years (excuse me? she fucking permitted this to happen to her children and she had started to abuse them a little before he got into the picture!).
The court also sentenced 3 men on probation. They hadn't physically touched the children, but they had been in contact with the parents via webcam when the parents had sexually touched the older child and seen the kids private parts and just ughh..
Anyway, since the stepfather is said to be highly educated, he probably is a first timer and get's out of jail with half the time served. If the mom and the other guy don't have criminal records either, they'll get out of jail with half time served as well. So kudos, 5 years for the stepfather, 4 to the male friend and 3 and a half for the sick fuckin mother for destroying two lives.

I haven't watched the news in a while but now I read about that. Insest and child abuse is terrible thing but here the justice system doesn't really seem to care, it is sickening because everyone still want's to think that Finland is a great welfare state.
There has been a lot more of these weird cases lately. They should have gave bigger sentences to those involved.
Wasn't that the same musician that had child porn in his computer and police found out? There was a big fuss about that a while ago.

The judge decided that my brothers had used too much force. They had punched him once or twice more than he had, and stopped when the guy had calmed down and were sure that he wouldn't attack them again. He was completely fine expect for a bit of a nosebleed where as one of my brother's got a broken hand. Now they all, my brothers and the guy, have records for an assault.
So in finland the rule is that you should never go defend anyone, especially a stranger. Just call the cops and run away from the scene. I think I read from somewhere that someone got arrested for an assault because he went to defend a girl who was getting raped and had punched the rapist etc. Isn't the law amazing in Finland :I

In Finland/Sweden area the law enforcement is too wimpy and nicey-nice. Prisons included. They have the basis that everyone is happy and decent, surroundings just make them go crazy.
It sounds ideal on paper--their morals, solutions, etc.
But the law does not take into account that there really are some people out there who really do just want to mess things up, and there really are bad people who do things for no other reason than entertainment.

^^ Same here in Germany.
They caught a group of pedos, a ring as they say, who kidnapped and raped a five-year-old until he died. They let all of them go, because the court failed to prove their involvment. Mind you, they were all caught with their pants down. There were hours and hours of video footage.
In the South of Germany, a man was convicted twice of rape and child molestation. He played nice in prison and they let him out after a few years. Get this: The community is SO scared, they now take turns patrolling the neighborhood, because the fucking law won't protect their children.
Oh here comes the best part: The rapist himself said that he couldn't stop himself and that he was a menace to society. He begged the authorities to put him back in jail. No can do, is what they said, THE LAW won't allow it. Commit another rape, then it's a different story, is what they said.

Wow, it seems like in those countries the way the law is set up only creates more problems for decent people. If I had a child who was molested/raped until he died and the guys got off, you can bet I'd hunt them down one by one.

Well, today it was revealed that three american footballers raped two girls in Finland and they got probation for it. No jail at all. It was justified with the fact that they had to spent a whole awful amount of 2 months in jail when the case was being researched by police. This is just so...ridiculous.
Then again, some 80 year old man committed a tax fraud few years back and he got 3 years of jail time. Nice to see our country has it's priorities straight.

Can nothing be done to change those laws? Seems like decent folks are left at their mercy.
I know some of you thing Texas is barbaric-but juries have no tolerance for this sort of thing. You kill and most of the time you will get killed. Someone attacks a child, odds are great they will land on Death Row. At least we get to feel some sort of justice has been done. Our homes are sacrosanct. You have the right to protect and defend-whatever it takes. I guess we still have an Old West mentality here, but we feel safer. Anyone rushing to defend a person under attack is a hero, and treated as one.

Thanks for that. I was going to say that peope love to hold Europe up as this utopian paradise while comparing it to the US where we have the most people in prison. Well, maybe it's partly because we actually lock people up for doing fucked up shit . So maybe while we definitely need to restructure our system so we aren't locking all these people up for eons on draconian drug charges, other countries need to be locking people up more.

^Criminality statistics are so easily manipulated it's pathetic. I believe on a local all the way up to a national level crime data remains seriously under reported in most Scandinavian countries.

I don't believe that is the case. Scandinavian countries are still very safe when compared to other countries. And even if the statistics weren't exactly correct, I can still say that in no way would for example the US or the UK be safer than Scandinavia.
It's just that when it comes to sexual abuse, the punishments are so pathetic in Finland. I think in Sweden and Norway they have a better system, not sure how much better but better. It's just so ridiculous and I am really ashamed to live in a country that punishes a weed smoker with a harder sentence than a fuckin rapist or a child molester. I'm not too fond of how things work in the US but at least over there the rapists and child molesters get a good sentence and not just some fuckin slap on the wrist.

Er, Europe is not a country. The law is different in Finland, is different in France, is different in Italy, is different in Belgium, and so on. Really, it's not a monolith. We even have borders and shit.

I really think you know that I am aware that Europe is a continent and not an individual country. But Europe as a whole is typically compared to the US on lots of things.
