Something I've wanted to do for years - but never would. Half of me is shocked and the other half is cheering this guy on for having the guts and the follow-thru. (I'm already a passenger on the scenic bus to hell; this just gets me a bigger window.)

Same here. If that was my kid, there would be hell to pay. It makes me really uncomfortable if parents do this, a stranger has no business touching anyone's kid.

Nope. According to another article, it just escalated the noise from crying to screaming.

Well, smacking a kid to shut them up usually does... I don't know why people do it?

Oh and the picture is even funnier. He's all snarls and totally looks the part of a child-hating crotchety old man. And a little bit like a Scooby Doo cartoon villain.

As per usual probably several people stood around and did nothing, except for that one person that intervened.

I'm horrible, I might have burst out laughing, the way I usually laugh when idiotic hyper kids who are running around fall down hard and start crying.
Yes, I have no soul sometimes.
But to be fair, he did first warn the mother that if she didn't shut the kid up he'd do it for her...*runs away*

Well, yeah, as long as you give ample warning, thats my motto!
In all seriousness, why in the hell do parents stand by and watch their kids wail and scream anyway? I've seen this a million times where parents just let their kids carry on with full-blown tantrums in department stores and don't do a thing. I realize they're probably used to their hissy fits, but why does that mean everyone else should accommodate it as well? Drives me insane!

^ I agree, January.
However, if anyone laid a hand on my child, he/she would be picking up his/her teeth off the floor.
