Isn't it? I could see if the boss said something like, "I'm going to call you ray for short." But it was blatantly racist, imo.

Martin Gutierrez, another fired employee, says he felt disrespected when he was told to use the unaccented Martin as his name. He says he told Whitten that Spanish was spoken in New Mexico before English.

It's a hotel. I would presume at some point this hotel would have visitors that aren't from New Mexico and whose first language isn't Spanish. But I totally see why hotels should stick to appeasing the locals instead of worrying about the clientele who would be the ones paying the salaries of the locals.

That said this guy did go about it the wrong way.
