I can't believe the prosecutors are even bothering with this. I mean, yeah, it's so likely that a buch of teenage girls will actually go out and kill 300 people. What a waste of time. Are they going to charge people who might get the shits with someone and say "I'm gonna kill you!"
Totally agree with whoever said that bullies and 'popular cliques' do far more damage to more people and completely get away with it.

Mary Bell was by far the creepiest child and so intelligent.
What's worse is how in society we aknowledge the killers and not the innocent victims. It's like we can't help it.

How in the hell do they get that way? There seems to be no fear anymore. When we were kids, we knew right from wrong and acted accordingly knowing the punishment was severe. I guess it's just plain evil.

We had an almost identical situation happen in our town 2 years ago and it was handled differently and wrongly. The only real difference is that the site was Xanga and it was a 'hate' list, not 'hit' list.

The kids on the list were all interrogated by the police and the school. Panicked kids were calling their parents to come get them from school, saying that they had been told they would be killed. The stupid community went nuts, the school refused to address the situation or even acknowledge what was happening, creating a climate of fear among the kids while targeting the wrong kids (listed kids) as the evil doers, even going so far as to threaten them with suspension if they didn't confess.

Common sense is sorely missing from our modern world.

Had to go dig it out of my book collection, because I'd forgotten the title.

It's called Cries Unheard - Why Children Kill: The Story of Mary Bell by Gitta Sereny.

More about the sexual & physical abuse of Mary was revealed some time after the book was published. It's touched upon in this book. For those of you who may be interested, in 1968, Mary killed two little boys in England, when she was 11 years old. Gitta Sereny did interview Mary for this book.

Mary was a gorgeous child.

Thats a good one and there is a ton of information about the Mary Bell killings online but for a good weird kid killing I prefer the two girls from Down Under that killed the mother. Did anyone have a chance to read about Shanda Sharer and Melinda Loveless? It's like a nightmare. Shanda Sharer, 12 was tortured for nearly 10 hours for fooling around with Melinda's 14 yr old girlfriend named Amanda, stabbed in the chest with a dull knife, raped anally with a tire iron (Ouch!), beat with the tire iron when her wounds began to make gurgling noises, beaten in the head so hard a piece of skull chipped off. And if that wasn't enough she was still alive while they burned her, and Melinda watched Shanda's tongue dart in and out of her mouth while she burned to death in the fetal position, it's described in rather gruesome detail. Repulsive.

Yuck. Who wants to look in the trash for a piece of paper? Last year at the school where I worked one of the science teachers found a hate note to a girl in the senior class, it turned out another student had dated her boyfriend , got dumped than wanted to get revenge on the other girl.

I just cannot muster up any mercy for these girls. There is no punishment enough for them. My problem is that I put myself in every position of each case and cannot for the life of me fathom how someone can do this. I could never even think about hurting anyone unless, big unless, they hurt my child and even then I can't say for sure what I'd do.

Well, I'm over the 'all children are innocent angels' drivel that this child-centric culture is always ramming down our throats. Please do not interpret that as me not liking children, because that isn't the case. They're people: some I like, some I don't. But the reluctance of some people to believe that childhood doesn't always equal innocence is frightening. That mindset results in people like Shanda's killers getting released way too soon if they get locked up at all.
