From what I can tell by that 4chan posting, the gunman seemed like an anti-social sociopath that wanted attention. Not to be famous exactly but more like he just wanted to eyes on him; too bad he had to kill 9 people to get what he wanted.

I feel like if this country had stricter gun regulations and a focus on mental health issues and treatments we would't have all these shootings and whatnot. Yet I fear that in these desperate times it's going to get worse.

^^^I think people, in their desperate need to feel in control over out of control situations, tend to overemphasize the role that mental health treatment could play. You can't make people get better, especially when it comes to personality disorders. If someone lacks empathy for others there is nothing to base treatment on. What are we going to do? Make counseling a mandantory thing for everyone from birth to age 18 in hopes of 'catching' someone in time? Why don't we all jsut let the government install cameras in our homes so we can all be monitored 'just in case' because I'm sure that would also 'catch' a few of these freaks before they strike. I don't mean this to sound hostile to anyone here, I just don't want our response to the dangers in the world to be based on fear and to be willing to have private lives increasingly controlled by government agencies just so no tragedies happen. I don't like it, but I accept that a few loose cannons will always be a part of life just as they always have been and there is only so much control anyone has over the actions of others. And I honestly think I would feel the same way if something happened to me or someone I love because I would blame the individual or perhaps the legal system if this person had a history of violent offenses and they were still among us or if they had been let out of prison early for good behavior.

To me we would all be better served by NOT having the names and pictures of these murdering attention whores splashed all over every tv station, magazine, and newspaper since that seems to be a large part of what they crave. At least try taking away the incentive and see how that goes.

I have a question:

What possible situation on the planet earth, outside of living in say, IRAQ or some bullshit african republic, would warrant anybody needing to have a fully functioning, fully automatic AK-47 assault rifle and ammunition for it, in their home.

That's what this guy used, he stole it off his grandfather.

Wtf people. Get some gun control laws.

If it had been in Texas, at least one of his hapless victims would have been armed and equally dangerous!

I have no clue. sure we have the 2nd amendment but I think gun laws should be more strict in the type of weapon you can use. Anything fully automatic should not be in the hands of citizens, handguns fine but a AK-47 is not necessary for self-defense. Unless your house is located in a warzone.
