Chimps are nasty as hell. Murderous, violent, screechy, bitey, prone to insanity especially in human confines. I hate them.

Gorillas are actually quite docile, relatively. They warn you, breast beating and bearing teeth, before they get violent. The worst damage I ever heard about from a gorilla was when a keeper got bit on the shoulder after he sprayed a silverback in the face with a high-powered hose. He forgot to lock the ape out while he cleaned his cage. He turned around and the ape was just sitting in the corner watching him. Keeper flipped out.

You think a chimp would have held that boy who fell in it's area, like that female gorilla did in Chicago, protecting him from the other gorillas? Not a chance. Chimps are nasty.

Yeah, I used to volunteer as a docent at a zoo. Happy times. Really good stories behind the scenes there.

A chimp is a fucking ape. You can't domesticate chimps as common household pets.. it's not a fucking dog.. an animal that is the product of many generations of domesticated predecessors. It still has primal instincts. I do not understand people who insist on keeping animals like chimpanzees and then feign shock when shit like this happens. The average human has no idea what behavior might frighten or stimulate a chimp to react violently. They're very territorial and exhibit dominant behavior and kill fellow chimps in the wild. They're beautiful creatures and they're fascinating in that we share a very similar biological profile with them but they're still wild animals.

This is truly a tragic story, I hope they milk the chimp owner for just about everything she has. Pay for the ladies hospital bill, put the daughter through college and put her kids through college too. As for the subject of her happy to be alive, maybe shes happy that she can still hear her child and be with her. Its true she isnt the nicest to look at and its probably unbearable for her daughter, but shes still alive and there. Maybe shes just trying to see the silver lining on this cloud. I commend her for that and wish her all the best.

You might want to read some history books and inform yourself about the atrocities committed in the middle ages, during the crusades and other religious wars. And for more recent examples, check Darfur, Bosnia, and other places. Not to mention everything done to Primates in the name of research. At least chimps have the excuse that they lack reasoning ability, what excuse do humans have???

I'm familiar with atrociticies in Rwanda, Nazi Germany, the rape of Nanking, Japan's Unit 731, Joseph Mengele, Jeffrey Dahmer, Guernica, the Inquisition, and Bob Berdella. None of them have a story like this. And this is the second story of its kind within the past three years.

In the West, thieves had their fingers cut off. Habitual criminals had their ears and noses cut off.

Before execution, criminals, sinners, anabaptists and jews were kept alive and awake while tortured with selective amputations before crowds in the 10s of 1000s.

Titus Andronicus was skim milk compared to the atrocities real humans are capable of.

At least the chimp was acting out because it didn't want to go back into it's cage. Can you blame it? The malicious entity here is the owner, a human, who expected a chimp not to be a chimp.
