Can't the husband demand a late term abortion? The doctors just want to wait and see what comes out against the wishes of the family. This is disgusting.
What if Superman is psychotic and everyone can see that he's Clark Kent but they just play along not to set him off?

I doubt if you're going to see a viable human being at the other end of this.

This is horrible. Marlise's mother was being interviewed yesterday and they know their daughter is gone, they know she's being kept alive despite her wishes otherwise. Here's a question or two:
    1. Let's say this baby lives... what happens to it? Do they keep it as a freak show, do they force the father to take it home?
    2. I can't imagine the medical bills accruing... are they sending this to the father? WTF is wrong with this picture, people? Come on!
It doesn't pay to be a woman - especially in Texas. There is no value to your life... unless you're carrying life. Sweet Jesus, the state this world is in sickens me.

I hope the Court will side with her family.

I don't see how the family could not want the baby. If I were the woman and this happened to me, I could forgive them not letting me rest in peace long enough to have the baby. But you know what? Thats not my decision, and my opinion shouldn't mean a shit to them. And, in a free country, neither should the state's in this extremely personal matter. The parents don't want this. Her husband doesn't want this. The deceased herself doesn't want this. I'm not seeing where the holdup is. Let her go.

Please don't blame the doctors. They are following the law so blame the legislators. My fear is that they have now been able to delay this so long, the fetus continues to develop and it will reach a pont where the family no longer feels they can end it. It's like the courts are allowing their rights to be taken on a daily basis.

Do they even know if the fetus is physically/mentally okay? What if the baby is born with a major mental or physical disability or illness? The Husband/Father and the patient didn't want the pregnancy to continue,...but it will end up being the Dad that has to deal with whatever outcome the baby is born with, plus the financial devestation.

Two fucked up and polar opposite cases with Marlise and Jahi...crazy. It is just so sad...and uncalled for.

Yes... if ONLY that little Jahi had been pregnant, her family would never have had to fight to keep her plugged up.

I noticed someone up thread thanked George W. Bush. Did he pass something that gave hospitals more power over our own personal living wills/advanced directives?

Nope, actually, legally dead according to TX law: Three Texas experts, including two who helped draft the 1999 law, told The Associated Press last week that it doesn’t apply in the Muñoz case. “This patient is neither terminally nor irreversibly ill,” said Dr. Robert Fine, clinical director of the office of clinical ethics and palliative care for Baylor Health Care System. “Under Texas law, this patient is legally dead.”

not just him. there are numerous states where this thing is law. Including Texas, there are 26 states in the nation which require life support and ignore living wills if the person is pregnant. Here is a list of those states: Alabama Arkansas California Colorado Connecticut Georgia Hawaii Idaho Illinois Indiana Iowa Kentucky Minnesota Missouri North Carolina North Dakota Ohio Oklahoma Pennsylvania Rhode Island South Dakota Texas Utah Washington Wisconsin Wyoming Living Will May Not Be Valid If You're Pregnant - Law and Daily Life

Whoa...okay, thank you, WCG. I sure didn't know that,... my state of Iowa is one, as well. That is such BS when people take legal steps to protect themselves and their wishes, and they can totally ignore it and do what they want with, or to you....
