Maybe people with really expensive houses. Hub and I don't get a big tax break due to our mortgage at all.

ITA. Her money was stolen from her. It was rightfully hers. At 60 - there's not a lot of time to recoup any losses and with people living into their 80's/90's - the money she will get for her condo and Social Security is not all that much when you spread it out over 30 years, even though it may be more than other people have.

I agree as well. I don't care how rich you are, you still don't deserve to be ripped off. And I don't think there's anything wrong with being rich, although there does seem to be a new mood of hate the rich due to the credit crunch.

I do feel bad that she was ripped off, truly. However, she comes off as very, very unsympathetic in the article to the point where she sounds like she's whining. "Poor me I have to scan the grocery store for deals on creamer and canned goods."
Like others have pointed out, she has some means at her disposal for the time being and perhaps a larger payoff coming with the sale of her condo. She's made her situation sound far more desperate imo, what it is.
She has to adjust her lifestyle to her new means, and I'm not discounting the distress she feels at doing so or being ripped off. However, what she's going through is affecting a large population here in the States as well. Her remark about picking nickels up off the floor is what put me over. Try not to be so dramatic lady.

I get what you're saying but it may be a case of teaching an old dog new tricks. It sounds like she's never had to do this before and it probably came as a shock. Plus, whomever wrote the piece may have slanted it in a certain way. She may just have been in shock and rambling on about all the shit she's facing. I'm just trying to see both sides, by the way. I still feel badly for anyone hit by the crunch.

Thank you! That crazy bast**d just stole her future flat out. She obviously was set for a nice future that she had the right to expect. Now this-he is a crook who deserves to be hung by the heels. Do not think he would have spared any of you, just because you have less money than she. That man is heartless.
One more thing: NEVER put all of your savings/retirement money with ONE outfit. Not bank or person.

This madoff clown should be executed, period. Why guys like him get slapped on the wrist so far while others get life sentence for stealing a slice of pizza is beyond my realm of understanding.

If you are smart enough to earn $7 million, you should be smart enough to put in away in a type of account where it is insured!
