Wow! I've just found the dress and shoes that came with chrystal barbie! Wish I could add the image , it's a white dress with a pink band!
Is it this one, DV?

I remember having a Kenya doll.

My college roommates freshman year (all three of them were black with braids) drove me crazy with their obsessing over them. It was like living in a hair salon, the way they constantly fussed and pulled and complained about needing to have them redone.

Then one of them had hers taken out (Her hair underneath was bob length) and started styling hers like Gina from Martin (popular at the time) and BOOM, all of them had their braids taken out and cut into chin length bobs. The first girl to bob was sooo mad, lol.

Girls of any race, color, ethnicity are always copying each other, always saying, "Why you copying me!?!"

Edit: ^^^Haha, watched Poetic Justice again the other day, remembering how beautiful I thought Janet was in that movie, and then I noticed her mom jeans, lol! She was still very beautiful, but can you believe we all used to wear such high-waisted pants?

i really don't remember looking at my barbies and thinking they were better than me or that they should set a standard i should grow up and be. i just liked dressing them up in clothes. sometimes i really think that these people who write these articles are putting way too much responsibility on a fricking doll.

now excuse me while i go wash the bleach out of my hair - after i put in my blue contacts... so i can run a couple hours on the treadmill.

Janet and her fake nose were completely out of place in Poetic Justice. Actually, the only saving grace for that movie was Tupac.

Tupac was just acting like himself.

The fake nose could be distracting in some shots, but it didn't hinder her performance as Justice.

Where are their hips?
One of my first barbies was CJ from Baywatch, she came with a chattering dolphin and Hepatitis C.

Tupac may have been just acting like himself, but he was a damn good actor in every movie.

Janet's fake nose was distracting in every shot, because no one in the 'hood has a nose like that. And she was completely miscast as Justice. Regina King should've gotten that role instead.

This may sound mean, but Regina King isn't good looking enough to play Justice. She was fine as Iesha.

Besides, we can just assume Justice got into a fight when she was young, punched in the nose, and she had to have corrective surgery

Lol, that cracked me up. Yeah, it can seem ridiculous, all the talk about Barbie, and you make a good point. Sometimes people need to just relax. However, I honestly DO think the doll plays a part --even if it's a small part among millions of other small parts-- in our society's demands on women. It's all part of the package, and we all accept it. She is designed with certain characteristics that seem normal to all of us now...Barbie is a very familiar icon. But with all the self-loathing and image problems that plague women, this seemingly innocent doll could very well add fuel to the fire of culture's unrealistic 'norms'. Are there more important things to worry about? Sure. But I maintain that Barbie sucks and could be replaced with something better.

That's just wrong. Funny, but wrong.

This thread is reminding me of the Growing up Skipper Barbie doll I got for Christmas when I was in early grammar school. I don't know what possessed my mother to buy this for me but when you raised the right arm, the doll would grow in height and its flat chest would grow to the equivalent of a 36 B/C. I thought it was creepy even back then.
