Bishop Eddie Long’s Attorney Addresses Muscle Shirt Pics

New photos have surfaced showing troubled New Birth Pastor Bishop Eddie Long posing in a bathroom mirror wearing tight muscle shirts and bicycle shorts. The photos were first aired by ABC News yesterday evening.

The cell phone pictures are of the variety that men send to women they are crushing on.

The married father of four allegedly sent the undated pics via text message to the three young men named in separate sexual harassment lawsuits filed against him.

On Tuesday Anthony Flagg, 21, and Maurice Robinson, 20, of DeKalb County , filed lawsuits against Long and his ministry, alleging sexual coercion and fiduciary misconduct.

Robinson was charged with theft in June after he and another man broke into Long’s office and stole Long’s iPhone and iPad, among other items.

Some have speculated that the men broke into Long’s office in search of evidence (such as pictures and text messages) to be used in their impending lawsuits against him.

Long was scheduled to address the sex scandal on local radio shows this morning, but he canceled his appearances after a 3rd lawsuit was filed yesterday by Jamal Pariss, 23, a former member of New Birth who claims Long made him call him “daddy.”

Long also canceled a press conference which was scheduled for later today.

Long’s attorney, Craig Gillen, read a brief statement from Long on the air this morning on The Tom Joyner Morning show on Kiss 104.1 and The Frank & Wanda Morning Show on V-103.

He said Long would address the scandal this coming Sunday during the 11 a.m. service at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church at 6400 Woodrow Road in Lithonia.

In addition to “categorically” denying the allegations against his client, Gillen stammered out an explanation of the cell phone “muscle shirt” pictures that are sweeping the Internet and blog sites:
“The photos don’t corroborate these charges. [Bishop Long] is a health advocate, he’s a weight lifter. Uh, he’s a fella, you know, who’s gonna go to work and he’s gonna have on a muscle shirt. And he’s gon’, you know, he may show up in church, uh, you know, in a muscle shirt. And… I know sure enough he can come, he comes down to my office in a muscle shirt. So, uh, you know, uh, there’s nothing really in those photographs that seems to me, uh, in any way that, uh, is uh, corroborative of, uh, of these allegations.

Gillen said he didn’t think the plaintiff’s attorney, B.J. Bernstein, had any evidence to support her case.

He also accused Bernstein of making public statements in the media that could potentially prejudice the case against Long.

In an interview on the Frank & Wanda Morning show yesterday, Bernstein said she was contacted by a representative of New Birth on Sunday prior to filing the lawsuits on Monday in DeKalb County.

But Gillen said the only communication he has had with Bernstein was in the form of a letter he sent informing Bernstein that her conduct could be in violation of state bar rules dealing with publicity.

“Lawyers, like any other folks, we’ve got rules we have to follow,” he said. “There are rules that govern lawyers’ conduct. I’m very disappointed in Ms. Bernstein frankly for the way that she has inflamed these issues. And, uh, apparently, in spite of my letter, has persisted in appearing on national shows and she is the one who’s been trying to try the case in the media.

I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg. I think a lot of these megachurch pastors are going to be exposed in the next few months and years. There have been whispers about pedophilia in a lot of black baptist and pentacostal churches for years now. Maybe others will come forward now.

It's not even just the black churches. Calvary Chapel is notoriously homophobic & bigoted. They've been known to BAN someone from the church for being gay. And they also have the pastor worship issue too. He is ALWAYS right & it will always be a "he".

And I hope it is just the tip of the iceberg. Exposing these people is long overdue.

(I'm waiting for the tear filled apology/self flagellation tour, I HAVE SINNED!!!!! When do you think he will be on People magazine cover, and Oprah?)

Ga. pastor's academy had 'sex self-check card'

Some churches like Ga. pastor's thin on safeguards - Yahoo! News

ATLANTA – The pastor accused of using a program to groom young men for sexual relationships billed the boys academy as a "rite of passage," teaching students about interest rates, Social Security and sexual control, even making them carry a card that listed three things they could be doing rather than having sex.

Pastor Eddie Long, an outspoken opponent of gay marriage, is now being sued by two young men who attended the LongFellows Youth Academy and claim they were lured into trysts with cars, jewelry and cash.

Two other men have made similar accusations — including one who filed a lawsuit Friday. That lawsuit, provided to The Associated Press, said Long coerced him into a sexual relationship during a trip to Kenya, at one point telling the young man "I will be your dad."

Long and his attorney have denied all the accusations, with Long remaining largely silent. On Sunday, he will speak publicly to his congregation at church for the first time since the lawsuits were filed.

The men, who were 17 and 18 at the time, say Long recruited them for the academy after they joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.

"It became a place where the bishop could learn the intimate details about these young men," said attorney B.J. Bernstein, who filed the civil lawsuits against Long.

The academy trains about 100 students during a four-month session for $500 a person. Long and his board of advisers, which includes NFL star Ray Lewis, created a daunting regimen.

Long, himself a stocky and muscular man, demands the students run 2 miles in less than 15 minutes and bench press and squat their weight. They even have to write a report on the documentary "Super Size Me," which chronicles a man who eats only fast food during every meal for a month.

Long — whose church's finances have been investigated by Congress — wants the students to keep a sharp fiscal mind, too. They have to calculate interest rates on investments and work a job for at least three months.

Long also focuses on relationships, with students making a vow of sexual purity. The young men carry a "SEX Self-Check Card" in their wallets listing their vision for life, a favorite scripture and "3 things you could be doing instead of having sex."

"Our methodology here at LongFellows is to invade and bring about a culture with these young men that they start believing in a standard that they have something that they hold to, that they never give up or never give in, do the things that they are ordained to do," Long said in a promotional video.

That video has been removed from the academy's website since the lawsuits were filed, along with a list of testimonials.

In one of those testimonials, a graduate of the program extolled its virtues.

"Without the LongFellows, I don't know where I'd be," said a young graduate who identified himself as Fabian Stone. "I don't know whether I'd be dead, on the streets, selling drugs — I don't know where I'd be."

A telephone listing for Stone could not be found.

Two of the three plaintiffs, though, said in the lawsuits that Long was too cozy with the academy's participants. A third man, who was not enrolled in the academy, has filed a lawsuit making similar accusations.

Anthony Flagg, who joined at age 16, said Long chose him as a "spiritual son" after learning of the young man's challenges growing up without a father. Flagg moved into another minister's home after being arrested on an assault charge — when he was 18. Long would visit, crawl into bed with him and the two would engage in sexual acts, the lawsuit said.

A second plaintiff, Maurice Robinson, said his mother enrolled him in the LongFellows program when he was 14. Long started lavishing attention on him the next year, and a church employee soon rewarded the teen with a Chevy Malibu, the lawsuit said. The two began engaging in sexual acts after an October 2008 trip to New Zealand.

Another lawsuit was filed Friday by Spencer LeGrande, a member of New Birth Charlotte. New Birth Charlotte is a satellite church run by Long in Charlotte, N.C. The lawsuit said Long told LeGrande "I will be your dad" and invited the 17-year-old to journey to Kenya with him in July 2005. LeGrande said that Long gave him a sleeping pill on that trip and that the two engaged in sexual acts.

The lawsuit claims Long convinced LeGrande that "engaging in a sexual relationship was a healthy component of his spiritual life," the complaint said.

The Associated Press does not normally identify people who claim they are victims of sexual impropriety. But Bernstein, the attorney, has said her clients consented to being named publicly.

The academy's supporters say it was anything but a breeding ground for Long. DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas Brown, who also sits on the academy's advisory board, said it helps keep kids out of trouble.

For instance, the teens learn about the dangers of guns by watching what happens when watermelons and cantaloupes are shot at a firing range. And the sheriff came up with a "verbal judo" course that teaches them how to defuse hostile situations.

"We try to make it so they can make healthy choices for their life," he said.

I've heard people talking about they may camp out tonight so they can get a good seat in the morning.

I don't think they'll boo him out of there. A lot of his followers drink huge carafes of his Kool-Aid.

He'll probably get up there and say this is a "battle from the 'enemy'" and that he'll "pray for his accusers" and how he'll emerge from this. They'll eat it up hook, line and sinker. He may step down, albeit temporarily- and come back after he settles out of court.

One of his Kool-Aid drinkers was trying to convince me that the pics were photoshopped and this is a set-up from the GOP, so they can somehow link this to Obama. Fuck outta here with that bullshit. Republicans do not care about his black ass, and only used him a few years ago to get votes.

I ought to go out to Lithonia (the suburb where the church is located) and go sell some shirts and sandwiches for all the crowds.

I think he will say there is a conspiracy against him, and start a blame game. Could go either way. The enemy entered in or the whole thing is a lie,. He is pretty egotistical so who knows. He really should man up and admit his faults, and face the consequences

I wish some dirt would come up on Osteen as well. I cannot stand that fake ass mega church and I am pissed off as fuck regarding the transaction between Houston and Osteen and the property that was formerly The Summit/Compaq Center.

I was telling the other that if he does a Jimmy Swagger, he is done at NB! If he admits to this that church and congregation will belong to Bernice King, and she(they) won't allow him back even if he is repentant for letting the 'devil' use him in this way. There are a lot of things they are willing to forgive, but this isn't one of them...c'mon now we are talking about a black megachurch in the heart of the 'Bible-belt!! I believe that after being shunned for a few years or so he will start another church from the bottom up. This is if he fall on his sword tomorrow and does a JS!

He's way too much of a megalomaniac to humble himself and admit to any wrongdoing. Then again, I could be wrong. He left a bad taste in my mouth when I read those quotes from him in which he talked about how he was on a level above a storefront preacher.

Also, the sign for the street that serves as the main entrance into New Birth says "Bishop Eddie Long Parkway/Woodrow Rd". I don't think the county erected that sign, as the original sign for Woodrow Road is still there too. Come on now!

Oh yeah, the name he supposedly used when he checked into hotels was "Dick Tracy Long" Seriously...

That video had me laughing my ass off too. But like I said, she is right about those rumors about him going on for awhile (I thought it was other men, not young impressionable teenagers though).

I'm still waiting on the other YouTube star from Atlanta, Alexyss Tylor to see what she'll say about this whole scandal to make me laugh.
