The Mom's offense was committed in 1998, apparently. Which means that all of the children were born after she was convicted and sentenced (whenever that was).

Oh dear. Having three boys myself, this really haunts me. Sounds like the mom and dad were messed up people...but oh god. I hope against the odds that they are okay.

Police: Father of missing boys lied about relationship with woman

    By the CNN Wire Staff
    November 29, 2010 2:05 p.m. EST

(CNN) -- The father of thee missing Michigan boys has no "established relationship" with a mystery woman that he claimed he left his sons with before unsuccessfully trying to commit suicide, a police chief investigating the boys' disappearance said Monday.

John Skelton, the father, told police that he dropped the boys off Friday morning with a woman he identified as Joann Taylor, in part to ensure that they did not witness his suicide.

Authorities said Skelton's suicide attempt was not successful, and he is being held at a mental health facility.

"There is no established relationship between he and the person that he described to us as Joann Taylor," Chief of Morenci Police, Larry Weeks, told reporters.

The police chief asked for the public's help with information regarding Skelton's blue 2000 Dodge Caravan, later discovered by police, that was believed to be carrying the boys between 2:30 p.m. Thursday to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Skelton told police that Taylor was supposed to take the boys to the boy's home in Morenci, a southern Michigan town of about 2,400 people about 40 miles west-northwest of Toledo, Ohio, around 3 p.m. Friday.

But the boys -- 5-year-old Tanner Skelton, 7-year-old Alexander William Skelton and 9-year-old Andrew Skelton -- never arrived and police aren't sure whether John Skelton's story is true. They say they don't know whether Taylor is real.

"We remain hopeful," Weeks said Monday. "That's why we're doing what we're doing, and hope to bring these boys home."

Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Friday. The last nonfamily member saw the boys at 5 p.m. on Thursday, according to the chief.

The alert notes that Tanner is 3 feet, 6 inches tall, has strawberry blond hair, blue eyes and weighs about 40 pounds. Alexander is 3 feet, 9 inches tall, has brown hair and eyes, weighs about 45 pounds and has scars on his hairline and chin. The oldest brother, Andrew, is 4 feet, 1 inch tall, has brown hair and eyes and weighs roughly 57 pounds.

Kathye Herrera, a family spokeswoman, spoke to reporters Sunday, thanking neighbors who have searched for the boys and prayed for their safe return.

"We've got three great little boys out there, and we're going to get them back," she said.

Authorities asked the public Sunday for help in locating three young boys missing for several days.

"We need calls. We need tips. Anything that's out there, no matter how incredible you may think it is, call. Let us know," said Andy Arena, a special agent with the FBI.

I was really praying that the father was telling the truth and the woman was just difficult to get ahold of.

Police Fear Dire Outcome for Three Missing Boys

    By Sara Hammel

Authorities in Michigan are bracing for bad news in the search for three Michigan brothers who disappeared when their father tried to commit suicide.

Morenci, Mich., Police Chief Larry Weeks acknowledged at a news conference Tuesday that police "do not anticipate a positive outcome here."

The conclusion is based on statements made by the boys' father, John Skelton, but Weeks would say no more.

"Because it's an ongoing and fluid situation, that information is not going to be made available to the public," Weeks said, adding that no decision has been made on possible criminal charges in the case.

Weeks also addressed how the boys' mother, Tanya Skelton who is separated from her husband is holding up, saying, "Imagine your worst nightmare coming true. How would you respond?"

    Mental Hospital

John Skelton, who is being treated in an Ohio hospital for "mental health issues" after his suicide attempt, told investigators he dropped off his boys, 9-year-old Andrew, 7-year-old Alexander and 5-year-old Tanner, last Friday morning with a woman by the name of Joann Taylor, whom he allegedly met online. But police found no such woman with a connection to Skelton.

Authorities now believe that Skelton, 39, may have driven his sons to an area in Ohio between 2:30 p.m. Thursday and 1:30 p.m. Friday, when they were reported missing, Weeks said. The search continued in Northern Ohio Tuesday.

They've released the dad from hospital now and have arrested him. Apparently the only injury he had was a fractured ankle. Urm, doesn't sound like he tried to hang himself to me. More likely he fractured it while disposing of the poor boys' bodies.

^maybe the "suicide attempt" was a way to set up an insanity defense for killing the boys?

Maybe the woman is real, but she gave him a false name. Maybe he really thought she would take the boys to their mother, but she didn't. Maybe she talked him into committing suicide so she could take the boys. Maybe she has them stashed somewhere, alive and hopefully safe.

    Damn

According to sources, Morenci Police say John Skelton has admitted to FBI profilers that he killed his sons. No further details were released regarding the admission.

Not surprised they're probably gone. The guy's got a screw loose - likely killed his boys, then tried to hang himself, not planning on failing obviously. Damn!!
