Aww man, so you were helping with the search for the couple from Alaska? OT but that's so sad. I just got back after two weeks away and heard they'd called off the search.

Did you hear about the woman who just died in Kluane Lake yesterday? Another older couple from Alaska on their way south, float plane flipped on landing, husband (the pilot) got out, but the wife didn't .

Okay, back OT - you couldn't pay me enough money to go out on that balcony. I could barely stand the upper viewing level of the CN Tower in Toronto.

I'll watch from the sidelines with you. I'm not even afraid of heights, but I couldn't stand there. Just looking at it freaks me out a little.

I've always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon. But that skywalk just makes me want to go even more.

Looking at the pics of the grand canyon one, for some reason that one doesn't bother me as much as the Sear's Tower balcony

Yea, that's the one. Spent a week in Whitehorse as a spotter and loved it up there (except spending 7 hours in a Cessna 210 with one 30 min. re-fueling break)
One of my favourite moments was during a re-fueling stop in Dawson City and seeing a DC-6 take off from the gravel strip.
If I ever get to Whitehorse again, the first restaurant I'm hitting is the Klondike Salmon and Rib BBQ.

Instead of me de-railing this thread even more, I'll post pics in off-topic.

Mmmm, yum. It's only open in the summer, unfortunately for us locals. I love breakfast at Doc's next door, too.

I'd love to see your pics.

[/end OT]

I feel sick AND light-headed just looking at them! Wouldn't get on it. Nope.

i like extremes. i love cities. big, bustling, busy cities with great architecture both modern and classic, all kinds of people and full of cultural life and restaurants and the freedom and anonymity that come from being in a big city.
but i also love the mountains and being in the middle of nowhere and having kilometres of open space or forest between me and the next person.
i think my ideal would be to live in a great big city, with regular escapes in the middle of nowhere.
as for the aesthetic aspect, i think there is beauty in both. i'm an architecture whore so i totally appreciate the beauty of cement and metal and glass and stone but i think a landscape like the one you described is perfection as well.

its the in-between i don't love. living in the suburbs or a small town is hell IMO. the worst of both worlds...
