YAMHILL COUNTY - A Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputy charged with armed robbery made his first appearance in court on Tuesday.
David Verbos, a Sheriff's Deputy with the county for ten years, was arraigned in a Yamhill County court on charges he robbed a Bi-Mart store in McMinnville last week.
Court documents show he threatened employees with a gun and made off with several bottles of OxyContin from the store's pharmacy.
The judge set his bail amount at $1 million.
Verbos' arrest took those who know him by surprise because they say it is just not like him.
"Sometimes we get caught up in some things and bad things happen," said Frank Higuera, a friend of Verbos. "I hope people aren't judgmental on him and about him. He is a good individual and a good family man."
NOT! He's a loser!!
Sources tell KATU News that Verbos recently battled health problems
Yeah; cross-eyed obesity!and may have taken prescription pills for the pain. It is not clear if he is addicted, but prosecutors say that is still no excuse.
"We kind of need to be careful," said Yamhill County District Attorney Brad Berry. "There are many people who have problems with drugs who don't commit robberies at gunpoint."
Investigators in Clackamas County are also looking into the possibility that Verbos may be the man seen in surveillance video during a robbery at a Target store in Wilsonville.
The robbery is similar to the one at Bi-Mart - a man walking in with a gun and robbing the pharmacy of painkillers.
Investigators in Clackamas County are also taking another look at other unsolved robbery cases to see if there is a link.

This loser worked at my High School and used to flirt with trailer-trash girls from the nearby trailer parks and do as little work as he possibly could by sitting around all day in his "office" and getting free cookies from the lunch ladies
