I just heard on the radio that a young boy (I didn't catch his age) raped his 93 year old great grandmother and then stabbed her to death.

Seriously, what is the world coming to?

Im not sure I didn't hear the full story, I've tried looking on the newspaper sites but theres nothing on them about this. I'll keep checking and when I find it I'll post the whole article

This kid needs to get to a mental institution, stat. I wouldn't lock him up with your every day, garden variety criminals because he is quite obviously seriously nuts.

I don't know if you can classify a kid who rapes his grandma and then stabs her to death as anything other than garden variety nuts. I mean, come on, this isn't robbing the corner store or mugging some rich lady on the upper east side.

I wouldn't immediately assume that the kid is legally insane.

With all due respect, I think, based on what we know, we could safely say that the kid is legally insane. I guess we could argue semantics here, but really, when someone rapes granny and then stabs her to death, it's not a huge leap to figure that they are batshit insane.

Rape is an act of violence, not lust. In Canada it is called sexual assault, since it more accurately describes what happens.

The kid is obviously very screwed up, but it sounds more like an act of rage and violence more than a sex act.

And DH is right about the insanity bit. Lots of perfectly sane people do horrific things in all kinds of situations. War, for example, or big business that recognizes no legal boundaries to its behavior and whose actions affect millions of people's lives.
