Fancy restrooms across Europe are now offering a chic new basic black shade of toilet paper, and many Web-savvy Australian shoppers are buying it online, according to Agence France-Presse.

Earlier this year in Spain and Portugal, Portuguese paper producer Renova put out a line of black toilet paper — and just started selling it to French shops, a company official told the AFP last week.

"The intensity of the interest in this product we got from all over the world was unexpected," Renova's international brand manager, Jose Manuel Pinheiro, told the AFP.

Calling it the world's first-ever black toilet paper for swanky hotels and restaurants, Renova, based in Torres Novas, Portugal, has taken Web orders from as far away as Australia and Japan.

After a huge splash of orders on the firm's Web site, it plans to release the shady toiletry for sale in the U.S. and Canada early next year, Pinheiro told the AFP.

Calling the black booty tissues "elegant, rebellious, alternative and eternally fashionable," Renova charges about $4 a roll, or you can grab up a pack of six rolls for a little more than $7.

Why would you want fashionable toilet paper? They'll be bringing out Burberry and Gucci print soon.

I thought they stopped making coloured toilet paper because it caused some type of inflection in women.

Also, colored toilet paper is bad for the environment. I'm not sure why but I think it has to do with the dyes.

My doc told me that the dyes in toilet paper can be a huge cause of yeast infections in unsuspecting women. I think it's primarily an allergic reaction to the dye (I'm allergic to anything blue, like detergent, Irish Spring soap, etc..).

Black TP? No thanks. I need to see it to believe it's gone from my ass! And dyes in my sensitive nether reigons? No thanks! Actually, ever since my son, we have wipes in every bathroom too and I can't imagine life without em. I realize they've been around for a long time, but whoever created those things was a genius!

This will become one of those bathroom oddities like pictured guest soaps that are "just too nice to use". Oh honey, you didn't wipe with my designer toilet paper......I was saving it for a special occasion!

Make sure you leave the Sears catalogue in the crapper then, I would hate to use your towels otherwise

It just made me think of my aunt's house where the guest towels were never to be used, just admired. Hee hee. Would the home hardware catalogue do in a pinch?
