School launches race probe after four-year-old spits at a black boy during game of chase
A headteacher has defended a move to launch a racism probe after a four-year-old spat at black boy during a game of chase on the school playing field.
Parents have reacted angrily to Anne Phipps' decision to investigate after a 10-year-old boy made the allegation.
But Mrs Phipps, of Bedenham Primary School, in Gosport, Hants, said she had no choice but to persue the accusation made against Rocky Smith. Scroll down for more ...

"When a child makes an allegation of any kind, whether it's bullying, racism, or general unhappiness, we investigate by talking to them. We couldn't dismiss this.
"A nursery nurse spoke to Rocky and I spoke to the older boy. We talked to them about what happened and why it might have happened. That's what an investigation is in a primary school.
"In this case a little boy did think something had happened and felt he had been singled out. But after investigating I decided this was not the case - it was just naughty behaviour." Scroll down for more ...

Rocky's parents, Sarah and Iain Smith, are demanding an apology from the school.
Sarah, 35, said: "After it happened, I said to Rocky "what is a racist?", and he said "it's when you have races with your friends and the person who wins is it".
"I can't believe they even called me. Rocky was wrong for lashing out and I've spoken to him about that, but how can a four-year-old be racist?
"His best friend at nursery was a boy of Indian background - colour doesn't mean anything to him.
"I think my four-year-old deserves an apology." Scroll down for more ...

Tunde Bright-Davies, chairwoman of the Racial Harassment Forum in the neighbouring city of Portsmouth, said: "A very young child can hate another person because of the colour of their skin - I have met with a boy of six who said he used to be racist.
"But with the circumstances of this incident, there was no name calling, no racial connotation, no "get away from me", so you can't found racism on just spitting.
"I don't know why it was investigated as a racist incident."
David Kirk, who is in charge of children's services at Hampshire County Council, said: "Every school will have a racism policy and it might be based on the local authority's framework, or it might be their own. But I know that the policy of the school in question would be satisfactory."
Bedenham Primary School has more than 200 pupils ranging from the age of four-years-old to 10-years-old.
In its last OFSTED report in 2004, the school was judged to be excellent in the category of pupils' care, welfare, health and safety. The school has a student council, trained staff who are available at break times for the children to talk to about any problems and teaches the RRR curriculum - Rights, Responsibility and Respect - which all classes discuss at the start of the year.

He looks like a litte shithead and I am sure he needs to be disciplined quite often but I highly doubt he did this because the boy was black. He looks like the type of kid that would spit at anyone, no matter their color, size, level of authority or age.

Schools investigate all kinds of ignorant shit - it's called "zero tolerance" and they use that to do dumb shit. a bus driver checked my son's binder because some little snot-nosed shit told her that my son took a book mark. naturally, he didn't and she didn't find one but it doesn't stop them from making my son feel like a criminal - in fact, that's what my son said - "it was like a criminal search, mom". frankly, i'm tired of the shit.

I'm tired of someone crying racism every time the victim of a crime or insult happens to be black, because it definitely doesn't go both ways.
What if the roles had been reversed and a black kid spit at a white kid? Would people be making a huge fucking deal about it being a hate crime in those circumstances? I highly doubt it. I don't understand why interracial crimes are only "hate crimes" when the perpetrator is white.
It's PC crap like this that just fuels racial tension. The school humiliated this little boy and treated him like a criminal despite having NO evidence, other than the other kid's allegation, that this even happened. If he wasn't a racist before, he'll be more inclined to have those tendencies now after such a negative experience. I am appalled.
If this were my child, I would pull him out of that school so fast they wouldn't know what had happened, as well as file a complaint with the school board against the idiots responsible for harassing and demonizing this child over something that they can't even prove took place.
A simple "we don't tolerate spitting," would have sufficed. If another incident occurred after that, then I could see having a meeting with the boy and his parents.

We had an incident happen when I was in high school and the race thing was pulled. But then when they found out it was actually a "gay thing" NOTHING was done about it. Why is that? I am still pissed about this almost 20 years later.

Forget the fact that the kid looks like a future skinhead in the making, I wouldn't start saying it's racism unless the kid did something beyond just spitting. Although I find it suspect that the black kid was the only one he spit at.
