Arizona girl plunges to her death in Grand Canyon | U.S. | Reuters
PHOENIX (Reuters) - A four-year-old Arizona girl walking at the edge of the Grand Canyon slipped and plunged about 450 feet to her death on Tuesday, a park official said.
The girl, visiting the vast scenic canyon on a family vacation, fell while on a trail near Mather Point, one of the most popular viewing spots, said park spokeswoman Pamela Walls.
The child's father scrambled down the cliff and tried to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Millions of people come here on vacation and this is a tragic reminder that when you have children here you have to keep them under control at all times," said Walls. "Something like this can happen in a flash."
It is second time this year that a person has died in a fall from the crimson-hued canyon, an international tourist attraction visited by an estimated 4.5 million people annually.
how horrible for all involved. as a child i wouldn't go near that place no matter how much my parents begged. i was positive i would fall in.

I am from the American CIA and I have a radio in my head. I am going to kill you.
How sad. I could never go there. I'm terrified of heights and would end up getting dizzy and fall anyway.
Into the sunrise. The sunset is sad to me….it only means the night is coming.
Oh dear. This is very upsetting. R.I.P.![]()
What the hell is a FOUR year old doing walking along the edge anyway?

Wow, If I had a kid I'd have him/her on a lead if I went there! I'd be too scared to go on that skywalk too!![]()
Poor girl....though her parents should have been keeping more of an eye on her. So awful!
Love ya,

God, that's so tragic. I can't even imagine how they must feel...
Even the best parents can make a two second mistake that can result in tragedy, so I do feel soory for the family and the guilt they will have forever.
Just please don't have a lawsuit, I don't think I can handle it.
