In safe hands: Abandoned baby with staff at Liverpool Women's Hospital
A newborn baby was found abandoned in the garden of a house, police have said.
The boy was believed to be just hours old and had his umbilical cord still attached.
He was discovered in a garden in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool by a member of the public.
Merseyside Police are appealing for the mother to come forward.
A spokeswoman said on Friday: "The baby was found in the garden of a house at about 11pm last night.
"He has been taken to Fazakerley Hospital and was later transferred to Liverpool Women's Hospital.
"We are obviously concerned for the well-being of the mother and we will be making an appeal for her to come forward." Scroll down for more...
Baby zac: found with his umbilical cord attached
Police said the baby has been named Zac by hospital staff and is in a healthy condition.
The little boy, weighing 8lb 11oz, was found in a garden in Delagoa Road, Fazakerley, by a local couple at about 11pm.
They had heard noises which sounded like a cat in distress and when they went to investigate they found the baby wrapped in towels in a bag. Scroll down for more...
The garden in the Fazakerley area of Liverpool where the boy was found
Superintendent Colin Leeman said: "The baby is in a healthy condition and is currently being cared for by hospital staff at the Liverpool Women's Hospital.
"I am very concerned about the welfare of the mother of the baby, and I would appeal to her to come forward as soon as possible so we can do what's best for both her and the baby.
"Medical staff at the hospital believe the baby is just hours old and he is healthy, but we want to find mum so that we can check on her welfare and make sure she is OK.
"Clearly this little boy needs his mum.
"I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who was in the area last night who may have seen something which could help us to identify mum to come forward." House-to-house inquiries are taking place in the area.

Well, his mum dumped him and not even in safe place, the kid could have died. I don't think he needs her that much. She should come forward though in case she needs medical help but no way should she keep the kid.

I'm so tired of selfish people acting as though there is no other way to deal with an unwanted infant than dumping them like garbage. That baby is luck to have been found safe.

Me too. There are so many other options out there instead of doing this. It sickens me. I don't understand how they can carry the baby for 9 months and probably bond with it only to leave it like that.

I don't understand what people are thinking when they go through with the pregnancy but leave the baby to die after delivery. If you are going to carry to term anyway, why not give it up for adoption? There are so many couples who are desperate for children and would welcome him into their home, love him, and raise him as their own in a stable and caring family. Personally, I feel the mother should be in jail. Leaving him to (presumably) starve to death, freeze, or die of thirst is just as bad as killing him yourself.

True SB, those waiting lists are sooo long. Glad this baby is alright, anyway.

I think they are concerned for her because she left the baby - she did not kill him - I would imagine that the mother's state of mind would be different in either situation.

I honestly am sick and fucking tired of people saying "well you don't don't know what their going through." Who the hell cares, they knew what the hell they were doing. There are tons of different birth controls out there, and they choose to kill those children, or leave them to die, w/e. These women need to be charged with attempted murder. Sick of all the damn excuses. I know out here in Ca we are educated at a very young age about our bodies, and what we can do if something like that happens. There are not ANY EXCUSES at all.
She still shouldn't have left him in a garden, hell she could have even left him at a grocery store, or a restaurant, and at least someone would be more likely to find him. What is with people being so damn selfish?

Or police station, firehouse or hospital - you can surrender a newborn - most people don't know that.
I think someone that is willing to abandon the child the just carried for 9 month something just not right that so logic and reason aren't going to be a part of their thinking as not getting caught.

I agree completely. I don't give a shit about their excuses or their mental state either. If they are capable of having sex, then they know what can happen. They have 9 months to come up with a plan for the unwanted baby, and for some reason, something tells me that women that do this know from day one that they don't want the child and that they aren't going to keep it.
Sick women, I tell you, if found she should be sewn up so she can never do this to another baby.

In Texas you can give a newborn over to any police or fire station-no questions asked. They publicize it heavily. There is no penalty at all-they just want the baby safe. We have had quite a few abandoned like that, making some adoptive parents joyful!

You can do that here also, and many other states. You can drop them off at a police/fire station, or even certain schools.
